How's the Stako situation going?

Well you did not mention regulators at all but since the thread was talking about them and your reply started with "Technically every part of the pressure system" etc, I assumed you was.

If you don't believe the regs need to be tested can you say why! or do you believe they should.
If you was not talking about them I will assume either you or I drank too much Vodka tonight.

Russ;)

Well, this thread is about the current state of Stacko bottles, which has migrated onto regs. I've always believed that regs should be tested, and i have even supported fat bobs decision to remove second hand reg sales from talk paintball.

My point is how far do we go with this tped regulation now the can of worms is open. It's all very well stating that certain parts are ce approved or not approved, but the tped refers to every component in the pressure chain, which must be from the bottle to the barrel.
If the powers that be want to highlight certain aspects of legislation to create a market place that they can control, don't be suprised when it bites them back.

No probs Tom, like you I like what Andy did re the reg sales on his forum.
As far as how far do we go! well I would have thought that was obvious - we go as far as the health and safety executive says we have to and if that cause's some problem to the manufacturers, well like I give a f***. They have took our cash for a long time and if they have to add a new part that costs a couple of quid to comply with the law well thats what they will have to do.
Nobody is claiming that the products in use are unsafe, but as far as I am concerned I would like written documented proof to say they are.

So, if (for example) PMI went and got one of their regs checked and it met the required standard, do you think they would be allowed to say that every reg they made to the same spec now meets the same standard?

I can't believe it would... just thinking aloud!

As long as they could prove with out a doubt that the materials that were used met with the test criteria of the build of material certificate that you get when buying alloys.

I have seen the stako bottle in question and it looks like there was a internal fire that then sent the magnesium alloy in the reg alite causing the reg to exploded sending the bottle of like a rocket(the bottle was cut open to see what it looked like inside)

i too have seen the bottle and the reg

Whilst it's hard to identify the reason for the damage (i'm sure as hell not going to try) it is clear that the internal surface of the bottle suffered some kind of exposure to severe heat, and that the reg suffered a catastrophic failure, leading to the cylinder being projected with serious force a substantial distance.

The owner is certainly not a fool and this is definitely not a case of user error.

Until the decision is made officially i suggest all owners of all tanks and regs check their cylinders and reg setups for damage to the reg body and cylinder, and if in any doubt at all (remember it's not just you at risk if you're dumb enough to chance it) retire your cylinder or reg from use. It is not worth the risk!

As to the solution to ensure that our equipment is substantial enough to resist the type of play, you've got to remember what it is we all carry around with us, a compressed air cylinder- 4500psi of pressure! i welcome anything that regulates this and ensures we're as safe as we can be.
