i basically meant (even though re reading it its not clear)

Yes you put liquid into the bottle, because your compressing the gas.
But you dont want too much. otherwise no Anti-syphon tube will save ya.
The "melted frost" filling method actually gives the optimum fill (or so ive been told)
And is a really easy/safe way to know when to stop filling.

NB this only works for anti syphon.

I was at a walk on day ,and there was lots of young lads watching them fill bottles and watching the ice form, so joking I said dont put your tounge on the bottel it will stick, so what dose he do..................................... licks the bottle and you guest it, it stuck:eek:  .

Just get a set of scales mate.

Its just a suggestion, but you can probably get hold of some for about £3 from a charity shop. You can then never overfill, and if you record how much a full bottle weighs, then you can know when its time to fill up by simply weighing it.

Though the "cold ear" method certainly works, people have an annoying habbit of sneaking up on you and yelling "BANG" at you :p

Hahahahaha... that's really funny... must remember to do that! :D:D:D

Almost right! LOL.
When Co2 is Compressed, it tuns into a liquid. when it expands, an Endothermic reaction takes place, which is why frost appears on the bottle, it draws all the heat from the aluminium and air around it.
well, I think thats right, but preparing to be flame'd!! LOL

hee... this is about to get really geeky, innit?

The "endothermic" reaction isn't really a reaction in the chemistry sense - a gas cools because a it will have an inherent amount of "kinetic energy" stored in it (in this case, it's stored when you apply force to compress it into the bottle) and when you let it expand, this kinetic energy is lost. The loss of kinetic energy is what causes it to cool... :D

Incidentally, if you compress gas fast enough it gains kinetic energy, and thus heats up (like when you inflate a football).

It's 20oz in weight. I can't remember the specific density of liquid CO2, but you don't need to know what volume of CO2 you're putting in, only the weight.

If you find some poor soul who doesn't really know what they're doing (like me about a year ago) then you get the best reaction :D

The reason that there is such a drop in temperature is actually due to the change of phase from liquid to a gas as the bottle is chilled/as you shoot, the anomolous large expansion produces the drop in temperature called the "latent heat of vapourisation" this allows the bottle to be cool enough for the liquid CO2 to flow in and stay as a liquid. It is then the pressure in the canster that keeps it that way.

If you are running an anti-syphon bottle then remember you won't want to put the whole 20 oz in, otherwise it will be full of liquid, so you'll get liquid washing into the gun (=bad as has been said). I usually go for about 18 oz, that's plenty for a game or two.

Have fun
