How important is communication during a game

I can't believe I'm really reading this. Granted individual skills are important to the game, and agreed it is more important to develop the individual player before you develop to communication, but its clear communication is the key to consistantly (note that word) winning games. Any team of good players can take down a lesser skilled team quickly, thats why those guys are better ballers, but once that lesser teams learn to communicate who is moving, who needs to be pinned down etc, they are a much more potent force. Why do you all think teams use codewords? In any sport, communication is key, in american football, if the play can't be changed on the line, it will easily fall victim to an intelligent defense. In lacrosse, if the defensmen don't know where the ball is, theres no way they can cover their men. In paintball, if players don't know who their threats are, they have to chance to defend themselves from muggins, angleshots, etc.

The edge communication will give a team is adaptability, sure good can take down weaker teams in 60 seconds, but if that team recognizes patterns and weak spots, and is able to shift their game plan to exploit them, game over. To recite a cliche, the whole is more than the sum of its parts, a good player is a good player, but if that good player is able to ask a teamate for backup every now and then, that player becomes a much more capable paintballer.

well heres my opinion, it isnt that important but in some situations it is vital, such as i was playing the concept feild at Sparklies and i was in a bunker where i was completely open to an oposition in the adjesent pyramid and i couldnt get him because he had cover (because of the layout of the pyramid). So when i saw him come out at me i shouted "keep the pyramid dude in" and my team mates did while i made a run forward to a better bunker.

This is what i think...

Communication is vital in all team sports, no matter how well you walk the fields the **** is gonna hit the fan eventually and if you can't work as a team then you are stuffed! Think of it this way a team is a common body all working towards the same goal, If there is little communication you are left with many individuals attempting to attain that goal seperately, running away from support where they are mugged before they even know it, even running into your own teams lanes! whereas if you communicate you can work together supporting, so the fronts don't need to stick their heads out as much to check what is going on. They also have another person to judge when is a good time for that crazy ass run through that cracks the game open...potentially saving face and earning glory.....etc etc blah blah blah you get the point!

Though I agree with the people who have said that you need the individual skills first & foremost, communication IS a vital part of the game.
At a minimum, the body count and opposition's positions need to be known by all the team. No-one can keep an eye on the whole of the field all the time, so telling your front guys that someone has moved up into a particular barricade can be the difference between winning & losing the game. And as How says, life can be so much easier if you ask one of your team mates to put someone in or push them round so you can make that vital move to mug someone or just get off a few shots yourself.
That said, it can be taken too far. Too many people talking at once, or trying to get long & complex messages over, can be more confusing than useful. Also, with less experienced teams having the backs directing the game fully as teams like Dynasty do doesn't really work. Just repeats of the counts, or calls like "he's moved into the rocket/T-bag/snake" & "put your opposite in" should be enough at the lower levels of play.

alright, let me put this to rest.

what do you consider the best unconventional-warfare military group in the world? the navy seals? the SAS? delta force?

whoever you think is the best, ask yourself this little question:

do they consider communication important? OBVIOUSLY they have all the other aspects down, right? firing while moving, marksmanship, spotting targets, etc. but do they communicate?

well, of course.

and, if it's good enough for the seals/SAS/delta force, then it's good enough for us.

end of discussion.

And there I was thinking we were trying to get away from the whole Army look of paintball, ah well.... But for once your mom has raised a decent point, (even if it has been pointed out by at least two other people ie Liz) yes having wonderfully amazing individual skills is important, but being able to communicate helps a lot too....
