as jose says its in the pa rules....its so that if you have a hopper fail you can change it without loosing the player to the 'on the field at 30 seconds call' rule.

i dont think that the chrono station technically counts as part of the field....although no marker which is fireing over 300 fps will pass the chrono station and therefore not make it onto the field in the first place so i suppose in that respect it may as well be classed as part of the field....it makes no difference

It states you can take two markers etc..... TO the field i.e. past the chrono and up to the tape . You may only take one marker, hopper etc ONTO the field..... i.e. through the tape. Pretty clear really........ you can take what you want to the chrono, but you've got to decide what you are taking before you actually enter the field. Lets you cover yourself for marker failure, chrono breaks and dodgy batteries etc.....
For me it's handy as I can have one marker at say 295 and one at 280, that way I know that no matter what my back up will be safe and I won't have to do any last minute dial downs at the chrono.
