They will have designed the circuit to suit a specific type of emitter/detector, this may be the most common type, and you'll have no problems sourcing them. But you could always try each type untill you get it right, starting with the more common ones.

yeh, probably worth a try, keep me occupied for a while, worst case is that it will have cost me about a fiver and a couple of hours!!
