Just a couple of poits to add to the good advice already given

As you are talking about maybe progressing on from woodsball, the SLG would enable you to move onto the tourney field, without changing markers, likewise a good set of goggles, and basically you can take part in either type of paintball, as you know the Ambush site already, you could always pop along to their next walkon and chat to the guys who i am sure will give you plenty of help and advice, also on the same day, we are running our open supair training day, so again you could ask questions on that side of the sport

My only problem with a vibe is that from what i've heard, you will end up spending a lot of money on upgrades for it (board, barrel etc) just to get it up to what the slg comes as stock
Hey don't knock it off, it has the (if not the then similar) regulator to the Luxe! Though I agree that the SLG would be a little more competitive on a supair field.

Thanks for all the advice guys! started a right old debate off here whihc is good as all the pros and cons for all the kit is being put infront of me :)

Been looking around and speaking to a few people and consensus is that a decent hopper is a better starter piece of kit than an amazing gun, so with this in mind what sort of hopper can i get thats fairly future proof as i progress with the hobby? Ive looked up loads of different hoppers but wouldnt know whihc one is any good as price tag isnt always the best way of spotting quality.....

im putting gun at the bottom of the priority list at the moment as i suppose worst case for the mean time i can use a rental gun with my own hopper, gas bottle, mask etc..............

Cheers

And the reg on the slg is the same as the DM9
:p
My vote is for the SLG. It's better than a stock Vibe, spares/upgrades are easy to get and the customer service from dye and proto are top notch. Plus it was my starter marker and it's never let me down.
;)

As for a hopper, you can get an Invert Too for around the £50 new mark. Or in the second hand market you can get a Reloader B/Halo for pretty cheap. I've seen some go below the £40 in the past week or so. They're all similar, and they're all very consistant and fast enough to keep up with anything you'll shoot, either now or in the future.
I use a Reloader B, it's easy to use, fast and it's got an immense battery life.

Completely agree with bambulus, halo too or halo/reloader b. All of those will allow you to move directly from the woodsball field to the speedball field if you so wish.

id like to add a few coments here.

firstly if your going to take it seriously then id suggest hitting top end right from the start. i started about 6 moths ago now.

i started with a Delta Elite package around £400 quid.

i then bought all the playing pants jerseys etc.

i bought a few other woodsball style markers which was just me being silly. so wont mention costs.

however i very quickly found that tourney markers are best option. they may not look as cool as mil sims but fire more and more accurate.

am going to suggest you up your budget a little if you plan to take it as a serious sport.
i now own a Ego sl94 limited editon £1300
Dye Rotor loader £120
carbon rap bottle. £100?
and a battle pack £30?

obviously my marker is a little ott. but i like the fact its camo for woods ball.

however for alot less am sure you could pick up a ego 7 -8 for maybe 300 -400

id highly recomend egos. out of all ive used there by far the best. and have the best support around. just call them up and there alway smore than happy to help out.

hope i aint made it more complicated for you

i should also add that i wear glasses under my mask and no matter what these will steam up. altho the lenses of the mask itself dont usualy.

Neilski, I can appreciate the comments from DJForbes, but as Bambulus says the SLG is a great marker for a beginner.
check out some of the package deals online most are willing to sustitute bits and pieces for extra cash, if the package doesnt meet you exact needs.
you could spend a small (large) fortune on markers, hoppers and kit, but if you cant hit the side of a barn with a tractor , the best marker in the world isnt going to make you a better player, stay within your budget £300-400 and you should get a decent setup, and get out and play.
playing makes you more confident , learn the tactics of the game...Then buy a better marker, you will already only a backup (SLG) and should you stop playing before all this you not massively out of pocket.

you have much good points there and
i did start with a package and changed alot of it.
looking back i no have 3 markers ill prob never use on the feild again lol. but if your buying a tourney marker first this will prob be alot diffrent for yourself.
