Yep - they are generally lighter. They are generally alu tanks wrapped in carbon to provide extra strength so can stand higher pressure + require less metal so arent as heavy. Just like other pressurised tanks, such as Scuba, they need hydrostatic testing.Hi all, fairly new to the sport and was just wondering what the pro's and also the con's (if any) are to using a carbon air tank as opposed to using a basic steel air tank and are they worth the money?

Probably better to start with a steel tank so you will feel the benefit of moving to a carbon tank - plus the added weight its like doing a few extra reps at the gym!
