I must be insane
for getting involved in this but--after reading a couple of completely inane threads this one at least has some merit (even if some of the responses don't).
Couple of factoids--the money going to 9/11 families is almost exclusively from funds donated by the American public and isn't government except in the instances of money to the NYC, FEMA expenditures and money that would otherwise in similar tragic circumstances go to some of the victims. The only extraordinary gov't payments are related to the plane that went down in PA.
Limbaugh's point was that while the general American public is readily moved to compassion for specifics they are otherwise both ignorant and civically irresponsible and the general run of politicans of either party take advantage rather than leading. And in the case of the military we should once again be reminded of the essential role they play in maintaining and securing our freedom (even as our politicians and bureaucrats are busy incrementally taking it away--editorial comment).
POPO--despite your name I agree with you in theory about getting the elected officials you deserve but in practice it's unfortunately a far more complicated proposition, for example, one the greatest predictors of voting tendencies is the break between those who pay little or no taxes and those who don't--and the line doesn't fall along income lines--it isn't a matter of the poor and the rich.
Roo--I'm with you, bro, but answer this question. Did you vote in the last election? Are you registered? Not a slam but a point. It starts with small steps taken one person at a time. Send your post--after editing the Limbaugh statement--to your hometown paper(s) and make sure they know it comes from acrtive duty overseas military personnel. Then send it to your congressman and senator and post it at the webites of the major television news media--they all got forums like this. In a matter of minutes you'll have started to take a positive action and who knows?
