the smallest bit it the pack is 3mm and the screw size is 2mm so i would end up drilling the sides of the frame out

You could try using a hammer and a centre punch if you have enough screwhead to get one in there.

Socket head screws are a right bugger when they round

i should have a centre punch but the hole is far too big i think, there is basically nothing but the sides of the head left

It could work with the sides of the head.. just find some part of the screw where you can put the centre punch against it, tilt the centre punch at 60 degrees or so and give it a few hits with a hammer.
