It depends on what loader you have and whether you buy a new board or re-program the old one...

The newest boards have a different longer push button and a different back plate with a graphic on it. If you have an old 'just black' back board and you buy a new Z-coded board then you must get a new back plate for it to fit and work.

If you send the loader in they just program the board IIRC.

There is an advantage to the old boards- when they don't know if paint is moving or not, they default to spinning the motor. The Z board stops the motor and makes the LED have a fit so you know there is a problem. The z board stops the motor so it doesn't burn out; the TE spins it just in case you need it to spin. Both have their advantages.

If you take apart the blue motor housing and put some grease on the belt between the motor and the cone, it will still feed well, but it won't create the same resistance for your motor to fight when it gets confused by black paint. This will keep your motor from burning out so quickly, and in a pinch, you can still shoot stuff with a black shell. This will allow you to deal with your current stuff without going out and getting the new software right away.

I have had similar thing with HALO's even with non-black paint.

The problem was that where the hopper sat in the feed tube, the eyes were always looking exactly between 2 balls, all you need to do is raise/lower the hopper in the feedneck by about 1/4" and it all works fine.

Dunno why it did that, but worked for me :)
