co2

Check to see if this gun runs on liquid or gas.if the bottle is set up for liquid it should have syphon tube ,shake the bottle,if it rattles you have one,for gas its a anti sython tube ,check the bottle by the valve for indication scratch marks showing direction of the pipe.Air is cheaper these days dump the co2.

low CO2 or air will cause the spyder to do this.

if you have a full CO2 tank or air tank and it does this the seal on the Hammer is knackered(the part which stikes the valve) as the air leaks round the hammer and does not have enough pressue to push the bolt back for recocking. a normal bottle o-ring will sort that out if you don't have the red one in a spares kit.

it will only be one of those 2 things.

As mentioned above, the "rapid firing" (it doesn't actually shoot that many paintballs) is caused by the Co2 running low.

The fact that it only shoots when pointing up more likely than not is caused by the gun drawing liquid Co2 from the bottle.
This can be prevented by fitting your bottle with an anti syphon tube, fitting your gun with an expansion chamber, or fitting an anti liquid system (does anyone actually still make those?).

Like buddha said, it sounds like because your CO2 is running low there is not enough for the bolt to re-cock itself therefore it fires then tries to recock but then fires again because theres not enough to recock it, then it carries on doing this...

i may be wrong but thats what it sounds like

I assume it will work better shooting upwards because the liquid CO2 will be at the bottom of the tank, not the top where it can get into your lines and prevent the gas from getting through easily.

expansion chambers sort that problem, but air sorts all of the problems ;)
