Cool!

But anyway... does anyone find it slightly funny that no one will admit to voting for Tony? :D :D
But then if you look at the alternatives its hardly an easy choice!!! I agree Tony is ****... but he only got in more people voted for his party than any other, so we can't really complain that he isn't represtenting the people. Although he was elected on the promise of a referendum for electoral reform which he has so far managed to break, what a surprise!
I can't really see the government getting that far on the issue of banning paintballing, or further restrictions on guns, any legislation has got to get throught the House of Lords (I'll bet a lot of them hunt) and then the Queen has to give her assent, although it has been a while since a monarch refused, but thats besides the point. I don't think that if the public were asked they would choose to change the gun laws so much that paintball became banned, some new rules and restrictions maybe but they would only improve safety.

My 2p hehe

About time too! Apart from suicides, the highest rate of mortality from firearms in the US is when a gun is taken from someone trying to use it, and turned on them - or stolen from a gun owner and then used in a crime.

Mind you - we all know how flawless electronic safeguards are in electro markers don't we? ("Full auto ref? Shurely shome mishtake . ."), won't be long before a thriving enterprise develops re-setting the chips.

As for immigration Batty - I realise you've been on the beer but you're 1959 years too late to worry about an influx of foreigners . . . !

UKPSF aware

As Jon has already said "The UKPSF are aware of the situation"

I have within the last three months been in communication with Tony Blair with regards to licensing of paintball markers etc... He as you will be aware was to busy to personnally reply but sent it to the main men at the Home Office.

I have recieved a reply and they feel that any changes to the legislation with regards to licensing would not have an effect of paintball markers.

They have no plans to introduce licensing at present. Incidentally in N Ireland they have a licensing scheme and that is why you can't currently play paintball in N Ireland, but that will change in 2003 and paintball markers will no longer require a licence so paintball should be OK at last.

Cheers

Thanks Steve. Thought you'd be ahead of us here anyway, but it's nice to get the reassurance that things should be OK.
See you at Elsham on 19 Jan!:) :D :)

Yes, but all it takes is one nutcase and away we go. You know the UK, any activity is one news story away from a banning. We've had a couple of airgun blindings recently and it looks like they are on their way out. One accident, incident or assault involving a marker and every paper will be on it like flies round $#!+ it doen't take a lot. Remember hand guns?, hunting knives?, martial arts weapons? for god's sake they even changed the names of the turtles (hero not ninja) and censored enter the dragon!
I know this is different, but it wont take much will it? A marker isn't a weapon.. but check some of the other threads e.g. "I didn't know JT made riot gear" and read up on replacing fills etc.... there are nutters about.
And how long before someone notices the close up offensive power of a marker? I was asked whether you could knock someone down with one by a friend who is nightclub doorman on New Years Eve, I told him it would be a waste of time and moved away from the subject as quickly as I could (as I had a feeling I know what he was thinking). But anyone who's taken a string up close knows the truth.
How long before a disaster? You can pick a marker up in most big cities now, (brass eagle pumps are sold in lots of army/navy/sports shops) and "pro-shops" are starting to appear in more accessible places too. How many fourteen year olds in the Nort-East have given up car theft after recieving a marker for Christmas?

It only takes one nutter...

So very true, this givernment does seem to operate on a policy of knee-jerk legislation. After all, the fire-arms used at Dunblane were not registered for any use, they were illegal fire-arms. If we spent more time worrying about illegal guns in this country rather than the sports ones (we will no longer be able to compete at shooting in the olympics, which we used to win a lot), the country might be a bit safer for all of us.

Just my thoughts

Richard

Richard,
all governments tend to have 'knee jerk' reactions to headline stories and this one is no worse than any other.

We all seem to be getting paranoid about big brother again and for no specific reason. As Bully has stated the home office don't have a problem with paintball and positive reform is already happening in N Ireland.

I have no doubt that we are long overdue for an incident involving a paintball marker but I feel we are in a fairly positive position to defend the sports image and values.

Great, I didn't vote for anyone, 'cos when all is said and done, they're all politicians. And I aint voting for them.

As for our "positive position", it doesn't matter, if they want rid, then they wil get rid. For god's sake, remember when they banned hunting knives, just one kind of knife banned because of the press, 'cos it's not like steak knives, fishing knives or carving knives are dangerous is it? We'd be an easy target for a zealous MP who needed a cause but didn't have any wars to start.
