hope some one can help me with my laptop, its been abit weird of late and hope some one can talk me through a few things. my task manager has some 46 things running when only desktop is up. i know i have avi and avast running. but i am unsure of the things i can stop or remove.

Don't stop stuff like Local Service,System and Network system etc.Anything that has your computer name next to it is usually ok to stop

its usually safe to close ones that have your name under user, rather than system. But if you are unsure about what one does, then you could search for the name of the file in your computer or google it.

well i want to stop them from restarting as well had a clear out in add/remove programmes so this is next step

you can try entering "msconfig" into run and edit what programs start at start up and other things
