Paintball markers are in fact air rifles and DO come under the firearms act. If it is capable of firing over 12ft/lbs you need a firarms licence. If it can fire more than 1 projectile with each trigger pull then it is illegal. This has been read off the met police firarms website as well as the UKPSF website as well as talking to police.
If anyone knows the weight of a paintball I can tell you what foot/lbs a marker fires at.

On average a paintball weighs 3.25 grams
Hence the legal maximum velocity of 330fps. This equates to 11.9ft/lbs.
Firing at 300 fps equates to 9.9ft/lbs which allows for spikes in power so you dont fire over the legal limit.
Anything between 1ft/lbs and 12ft/lbs is an airweapon and is covered by the firearms law.
Any weapon covered by the firearms law cannot legally fire 2 or more projectiles per trigger pull. This puts turbo boards in a bit of a grey area as you are technically firing 1.5, 1.9 bps etc.
Burst and full auto are illegal and carry a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
Its a little worrying when someone who is selling thse markers does not know the law and could well get paintball banned because of it.
All it takes is one or two cases going to court for paintball to be badly tarnished.

I know that shoot pretty fast with out the full auto frames but your hand must get tired from pulling the triger 10-18 times in one second.
Its so much nicer just holding the triger for a second so that you can shoot your auto setting.

Because of the f****** firearms act we don't have the FREEDOM to go auto i mean it must be especially fustrating for angel owners who can get up to 20bps and have all these other crazy modes that they can't leagally use. And you better think again if you think that trigger frame isn't as good as the ones you were talkin about.

i can see your point on the freedom side,but i personally agree with the laws,as you caln't accedently fire a string of un aimed paintballs wich we all know could be bad news.also full autos make u lazy,moving your fingers quickley is only going to make more popular with the ladies as well

but the other point i was trying to get at was that paintball guns aren't a weapon when used on feilds (paintball) so they should be an exception, they aren't used for a purpose of hurting people they are used for getting someone out more like quasar, they should be classed different. How could it be bad news if your on a paintball feild (strictly not allowed to take off your mask) it would be different in public but then again all paintball guns are. Your not going to get completely lazy though you still have to run and you aren't going to have it switched on auto all the time anyways (if you were allowed to).
