I don't recall the first game being quite that late, but since I was playing and not marshalling for once, I didn't really care and so wasn't watching the clock. I'll probably be marshalling this one, and if so we will be back to the quicker tempo, so plan for 18+ games when thinking about how much paint you need.
As for the paint testing, I'll have to check what the marshals that day wanted to implement, but as I recall it was repeatedly dropping a test ball onto concrete from 6 foot, with the requirement that it has to break within 7 or less drops. If the ball fails the test, you either have the option of switching to paint bought from the site, or chronoing down to 250fps.
Personally, I think the idea is unworkable, or at the very least is going to cause confusion, arguments and delays, and we should instead just use a blanket 280fps limit, no matter what you're shooting. Except for reball. And pebbles. But not maltesers.
We'll also be stamping down on ramping and bouncing triggers again, and to stop complaints from one player who has a marker with a very bouncy trigger that he keeps being singled out, we will be checking every electro at the beginning of the day, plus any that raise our suspicions during play.
*sigh* I remember when all you had to worry about was wipers and playing on. It's meant to be a fun day FFS, but some people still want to cheat! :-(
