Forget what's wrong with Dynasty, what's wrong with...

Well, y'all could argue that it has affected Joy, cos sure as **** 10th and 13th in their two NPPLs ain't gonna leave Mag happy, and I think he'd probably argue that Joy is a better team than those results suggest - whether he'd claim that training more for X was a contributary factor to his results, who knows?

Tontons - 10th, 12th and 17th in 7-Man...way down on last season.

As for Tigers, I think you're right - their 7-Man placings are similar to last season's, so no adverse effects there, and they are doing better in EXL than most people expected at tha start of tha season.

So, another question: is playing in tha EXL going to keep Nexus, Joy and Tontons out of tha Pro division for NPPL 2005, and if so, was it worth it?

My initial reaction would be to say I don't think it has but after looking at last year's results against those two teams, I would have to agree with you that it has...marginally anyway.
Certainly we play a more aggressive game than those two, or at least we used to.
Joy were more aggressive than Tigers when we played against them last year but we still beat these teams by being ultra-aggressive.
(Mag, don't blow a fuse, I am only referring to the game we played against you in Toulouse last year, that's all mate).

I suppose all this may hold a clue but I'm not 100% convinced yet.

Joy ain't done brilliantly in the NPPL this season and nor have Ton Tons, Tigers do not play NPPL, so we can't guage them in this way anyway.
When we played the Tigers in the Dam we blitzed our way into a 6 to 1 lead at half time by playing aggressively but when they worked out what we did and changed their set up in the second half to shoot our runners and lanes, we couldn't adjust as well as they did to play that type game and they justifiably beat us in that game.

We picked a style of play on Nexus that is now hurting us (maybes) but I do believe we can still play aggressively and win, we just need to concentrate a little more when we play and not just freestyle it.
But I still do not think this is the major reason why we are under-performing, I think it's a combination of several things but come the end of the year when we are more than likely gonna be concentrating on one format only, I think we will get back on track.

Hmm you just beat me to it TJ, as for your question, if by playing XBall this season, it ends up compromising our NPPL chances for 2005, then it most definitely was NOT worth it !!!!!!!!

TJ, I just been thinkin about your post.

If you look at last year's top Euro pro teams, I think most people would have gone for Joy, Ton Tons, Tigers, Russian Legion and Nexus (in no particular order and no disrespect meant to any other pro teams) and yet the three teams who have seen a downgrading in their performances are the very same teams who have been playing in and training for the NPPL.
Even Shockwave have played well below their 7 man potential in the NPPL in trying to play both formats........ is this all a coincidence????
I don't think so now.

The Russkies have gone from strength to strength in only playing XBall and the Tigers have played well above what most people (including me) would have imagined in concentrating on XBall.

The downgrading assessment of Joy, Nexus and Ton Tons with respect to last year has been done in the context of performances in the NPPL as the Millenniums this year have not had the same, or anywhere near the quality (and number) of last year's entries and therefore can't be used in the same way to analyse results.

I could be talkin outa me ass here, Magued, Nick, Buddha, Duff, Gareth, Baca, anybody, any thoughts ?

But judging from the 'evidence' it does seem that concentrating on one format does most definitely have it's benefits, with perhaps Tigers being the exception to the rule. Seems like a "Jack of all trades, but master of none" thing.

Stateside it looks like things point in the same direction. The teams that have switched over from Xball to 7 man are doing well. Keep in mind that the teams that made the switch were (mostly) not the topdogs. Now that they are able to focus on a format they know, and on that one alone, they kick ass all over. Likewise, the teams that are still in the NXL but played a few 7 man events suffer from reversed results. Bob's boys seem to be Xball gods, but are not as good at 7 man (makes sense, since they hardly play and I assume practice the format).

Look at Dynasty. Now they are playing double formats, they just ain't cutting it anymore.

Could it be that it's all mentally too much of a pendulum? After all, Xball requires a wholly different frame of mind. Moves that can win you the game in Xball may well be the dumbest thing to do in 7 man paintball. Swinging back and forth between these formats may be too much to do on a regular basis. Just when the mind has adapted to one format, you have to play the other again.

Hmm

My thoughts about this season.
Regarding Nexus, I think this team needs to have some peace and just focus on practice and working on what needs to be done.

I also think that Nexus is a better 7-man team than a X-ball team.
The reason is that Nexus plays very aggressive but do have problems adjusting to other teams change of tactics.

A example of this is that almost every X-ball game in EXL Nexus have played they have taken the lead by winning the first game.
even against the Russians Nexus was 1-0 up. If we translate thoose figures to 7man Nexus would have won pretty much every game they played in EXL. As 7man is only 1 game.

Why Nexus cant keep it up in X-ball is another issue, but I would take alook at the organisation more than the players. Tactics and gameplans needs to be better. Line coaching needs to be improved ALOT! On the other hand why bother? Best thing for Nexus right now is to concentrate on 7man, doesnt look like they going to need to improve X-ball anyway..

As for Tigers and Joy, well Tigers is improving all the time. Reason is that they are taking practice serious. And thats all it is to it, practice and get better. There is no shortcuts anymore, the days when you could throw together a practice weekend a week before a event and do good is over. Practice hard or loose. Tigers understand that and thats why they are a much better team now than ever before. Thats also why the Russian are 10 times better this year than last year. They have taken the practice to the first ever pro level in paintball.

Regarding Joy, I must say that Im a bit suprised that you think that we have had a worse season that last year. Joy this year is much stronger than last year. The 2 Nppl event you guys are reffering to was something that happens but in noway reflect the season. The 10th place in Huntington was after Joy had qualified to sunday in 1st place (same points as Dynasty). Beating up pretty much any team facing them. Going in to the quarters we knowed that we couldnt afford to loose 1 game if we should make the finals. (like Miami). We won the first game and lost the second game badly against Avalanche 3-99. Then we knew it was all over. Last game against Bushwackers we also lost and that gave us a 10 place. But still after the event I was really happy how the team have played. In Tampa the team really sucked, I know why now and we are trying to make sure it doesnt happen again. In EXL we have done very good. Overall Joy is getting stronger and stronger, alot of the new young players are improving fast and as you all have seen in EXL players like Dan Liljeberg, Rasmus and Robin Larsson are making their names knowed. 3 players from the NPPL 7man team was playing in Madrid. So the team have also another very important asset, depth. 14 players that are fighting for a spot and its getting harder and harder to pick a team. Also our firepower have improved since last year.

Personally i think you gotta lose some to win some ;)

Basically, which ever format you choose, the other one will suffer. Be it 7-man, and x-ball will most probably suffer the most.

I personally would go for the most popular. There is already evidence of which one is cutting it. Just look at Infamous 2 straight wins, now if thats not consistent, then i dont know what is.

Just my 2 pence (flame lightly, i easily burn :D)

Nick : Hmmmmm.............................. as was evidenced when XSV first came out of the NXL, they sucked well bad in HB and now they have nailed it...........Nick, I think you may be right about the closing down of games with numeric superiority as we experienced in Denver (don't let you being right this time go to your head :) ) tho I do feel it seems such a subtle tweaking that it could have such an effect on the end result.
Goes to show just how fickle overal team performance can be and how such a seemingly small consideration such as this can affect a team...kinda worrying really :)

Magued : You may be right about on field playing, our sideline coaching wasn't as good as yours or others who have played it before and J-Doe is working on it but it's his first time ever and I ain't gonna do it otherwise I'd have a heart attack (J-Doe was better at it than me anyway).
As for your results in HB, Mag that's my point, you should have beaten Bushwackers easily but didn't.
Maybe you would have had you been concentrating 100% on 7 man.
Tampa once again reinforces the point in you guys underperforming as against last year.

As for playin out XBall, I know there's no real point because I doubt there is gonna be much going on next year but I got something to prove and I know the team wanna prove the same point, so that's why we are going to Oslo.

The bushwackers game is insignificant. Didnt matter if we won with a 100-0 score and we knew it beacuse of the 3-99 deafeat.
But regardless off that we had had maybe 3-4 x-ball practices this year. Now we have left it to concentrate on 7man.
But point is regardless of the bad results in Nppl the team is better than ever.

Ps. X-ball coaching is less stressful than just watch your team, belive me!
