Forget what's wrong with Dynasty, what's wrong with...

Nexus?

How is it tha same ballers that were a comfortable top 10 Pro team last season have been pretty sucky all season?

Have they developed egos? Have they stopped training? Did they play above themselves last season and are now back down to their natural level? It ain't no 'Robo-wasn't-there' aberration either - cos while that may have been a factor in Denver, they ain't set tha world alight anywhere else this year either. Y'know, anyone can have a good first season, but maintaining consistency and improving is tha mark of true ballers...

So, what's happened to them, and can they fix it?

maybe they feel their spots are garunteed and would be better if they had a little healthy competition.

New Nexus trials! Everyone to try out again, including the Nexus boys. Would make me fight for my spot for sure! (if i was on that team of course)

i think you will find that the squad that went to Madrid was Nexus Eclipse, the feeder team and bearing in mind those guys have only played about 3 tournaments this season they did ok.

Nexus 1st team, and all the others top 8 pro teams in the UK are struggling a little (except the Tigers) because of the dual format that they are having to train and play.

rest assured that the 1st team are still cutting it, and so will the Eclipse boys + girl when they get the playing time together up!

big respect to all the dual format playing teams in Europe, i am so glad i have only gotta think XBall all season! ;)

1. I know about Madrid duder, I wasn't including that - although that wasn't a great result either after Toulouse...maybe indicative of a mood in tha camp?

2. But that's tha thing - they ain't cutting it, not over here, not to tha level they were last year. And don't tell me that they ain't playing below themselves in tha EXL either, cos I don't believe thass tha case...

Could it be that there is more competition in the NPPL again making it tougher for anyone to make the cut?

Lots of last years top NPPL teams are struggling this year against the teams from the NXL or PSP that are now no longer forced by their sponsors/contracts to just play one series.

I know the reason is not one of complacency in the 1st squad, they have to beat the Eclipse players off with a stick for their spot.

Maybe its that too many of the younger guys are replacing the more experienced ones to soon. It takes a long time to gain the experience and confidence required to gain the consistancy to place in the top 4.

If Pete in his selection process has chosen to go the route of speed and style over calm and calculating, then there will be a dip in overall team results untill the greener members of the squad gain the required match time. You can only achieve so much by training, the rest has to be learnt during tournament play where the pressure is far greater and people react differently.

Just my 2p's worth.

Hmmmmm, I think Ben Frain may have touched upon one of the reasons in the Dynasty thread in implying the aggressive style we play is costing us against teams who spray and pray tho it is nowhere near the complete answer.
I wish it was but it ain't.
It certainly did have an effect when we played in Huntington where teams seemed to be just sitting there shifting a lot more paint but it doesn't explain our relative underperformance in playing the EXL.
In Denver we just plain sucked coz we didn't close games down where we had numeric advantages, I mean, losing games where we were 7 on 4 up, 3 on 1 up and 4 on 2 up is just plain negligent.
You can't expect to make the Sunday Club when you throw three games like that away.
Trying to play two formats has affected us, and Sergey did warn me but I honestly didn't think it would have affected the team performance as much I was warned.
I might have been wrong but I still can't attribute the levels of individual's underperformances to training and playing dual formats tho it is a convenient excuse that some might try to tap into.
Last year there was no pressure, we were nobodies who did pretty well but this year there is a level of expectatoin and perhaps some players need to forget that cr@p and just get on with playing.
The guys have alreay proved they can put in World class performances, we have the talent base in the team, of that there is no doubt, we just gotta start translating that talent base into talented performances, it's as easy or as difficult as that :)

We (Nexus first team) haven't played any Millenniums this year so it will be interesting to see what happens when we play Malaga.
This year, for us at least, was all about having two options at the end of the year, the NPPL option and the EXL option.
We are on course for both and to that end, our season was successful even tho we haven't been playing anywhere near the standard we played last year.
For anybody who really knows the guys on the Nexus squad, they will already know, the guys will be working extremely hard to put right what is wrong, so we'll see what Oslo and Vegas brings.

Why has it affected Nexus more than Joy and Tigers?
