Anyone had any trouble taking a mask on handluggage? Dont really want it to be subjected to the throwers, but will I get grief about it in the x-ray part?

Depends if its your Gimp mask or not...
But if you wrap it up along with your skirts you should be ok....

i've flown several times with barrels in my hand luggage!!!! once even a full freak kit!!
and one of these times was 2 days after 9/11!!!!!!

what you can get away with is really scary, i remember coming back from a millenium leg and one of the other teams was in front of us in the queue for check in and he remembered he had not de-gassed his bottle. he then started to dump his bottle in the airport!!
