Floundering airline supporting paintball?

Athletes are encouraged to call the airline ahead of time to notify them of any Paintball equipment they may be checking in.
1. Athletes? I thought Baca and PGI cleared up that mess in a previous issue? :p

2. Any paintball equipment I may be checking in? Why would I be checking in any paintball equipment, I'm just going to play paintball afterall?

Seriously though, would it be too much for them to assume that PAINTBALLERS will be checking in PAINTBALL EQUIPMENT!

3. Why? It makes no fuking difference to airline operations. People check bags all the damn time. The TSA screen bags all the damn time. This is what you do every fuking day dip****s.

...I guess that's about it.

Actually, in theory it makes a difference. Paintball equipment and in particular the HPA tanks, must be cleared on an individual basis, because of the hazardous materials rules.
In reality most players just check in their bags through regular channels and that's the end of it. Yes the TSA does check bags, but they check only a very small percentage. The talk that every bag gets checked is just plain bull****. The chances that your bag will be checked are very slim. But if they do check, and they do spot some sort of gun shaped object, this will result in all sorts of delays...
But by telling you to call in to say you will be checking in with paintball equipment, they are more or less encouraging you to adhere to the rules, and to try and avoid a gargantuan queue over at the oversized luggage inspection point. Little do they know that most of us don't give a rat's ass...

Yup, but calling some 800-number isn't going to change the amount of time required for this.

Uh...not really. Airports equipped with the proper equipment scan every single bag. Airports without such equipment still check every bag for explosives residue.

I was just saying it was worthless, and at the time, I was certainly bitter. ;)

A gold star for Noop and 100 entries into the free drawing to win Baca's P8ntballer Superprize. See what great things can happen for those who can read? Wow!

Never tell the TSA nimrods anything you don't absolutely have to. And yes, they check everything--either by machine or with their little handy wipes.

It's okay, Noop. You got anger, let it out. That's what we's here for.
