Hotpoint

Just a quickie, lot of confusion still around bottles

for a HSE bottle, no matter what its construction and whether its been in water or not! is it still every 3 years for retesting? there have been stories about guys sending bottles away made in 1999 and being returned as test not required?

I knwo its been done to death but some clarification would be nice!

Cheers

According to the HSE stuff I've read it remains three years for a fibre-wrapped tank. For a normal tank however it's a 5-Year test which may be the source of confusion

Again dumb question 4 Hotpoint

This may seem really stoopid but how do you tell the difference between them??

Mine is a bottle with a Black 'shell' coating over the top of whatever th bottle is made of, what type of bottle is thislikely to be, it does not say anywhere on it 'made of XXXX'

I know I sound like a numpty but all I want to do is play ball and make sure i can get my bottle filled at S2003 events!

Thanks

Not dumb at all. Dumb is not asking :)

Check the label on your tank:

HSE-AL-FWI (full wrap composite)
HSE-AL-HWI (half wrap composite)
BS 5043 Part 3 (Aluminium)
BS 5043 part 4 (Steel)

Rapid cooling (via gas expansion) causes the wrap to separate away from the inner tank weakening the bottle. This is why they should be tested more often even though a wrapped bottle will not turn into shrapnel in the way way when she explodes

For the same reason if you use CO2 occasionally (in a Shocker for example) you shouldn't use Air in the same tank afterwards as the really rapid expansion of liquid to gas is bad for the bottle and you wouldn't want to put HPA in a possibly weak tank

A UKPSF Technical Advisors lot
is not a happy one

Are you trying to insinuate that I might blow my top if another person asks me about DOT bottles?

Because if you are you're damn right!

Sorry but whilst I may occasionally be thought of as mildly knowledgable I am not omniscient :p

Can someone else suggest a testing place to Billy?

Testing place - any local dive shops Billy?

I've got to test my bottle this month (or then again, I've been offered a cheapo DOT bottle - hotpoint, can I use it if I get a fake passport made up? ;) :p :D) and am going to try the dive shop around the corner (in fact, I may do that this afternoon - anything to avoid doing the dreaded coursework! ;)
