Actually, I'm glad that somebody has gone ahead and started a thread like this because I've been pondering upon the same thing for a while now - I'm also an A level student, but studying Maths, Physics, Chemistry and ICT.

What kind of skills are required for differen't areas of the business and what are the kind of qualities that the companies are looking for (from different job standpoints of course) especially, in the air smithing/technical side as PB2K said, or research, design and development, reporting (PGI) of course, etc.
I'm eager to learn a lot about the industry, and I too hope to one day persue a career in the industry - I'm also interested in any possible places where work experience or something of a similar nature may be explored...

Any info. will be greatly appreciated :D

(Sorry for butting in on your post P8ntball2k, just thought it would be good to try and get lots of info into the same thread :) )

I, wrote to planet about work experience cos it would be a huge insight into the technical side (which is what im intrested in) watching the likes of jack wood work...................sadly i never got a reply.........lol, thanx guys.

but hay, the more and more i go on playing the more i want to get deeper involved and think about it. The next generation of jak woods and danny loves have to come from some place......

With all of these people wanting to 'go down the airsmithing route' there's gonna be a lot of competition for jobs in that department. The problem is that if you want to get into airsmithing or R&D in a serious way there are only 3 UK companies that have a need for airsmiths in a serious way (not talking shops): WDP, Belsales/Arrow Precision/Powerball, and Planet. Unfortunately for you lot that means very few jobs. However, if you're serious about it then those are the people to talk to.

Sorry but A levels are not sufficient, you will need a mechanical engineering degree or something similar. Possibly some experience in programming, using CNC machines etc. go to www.automags.org/forums then look under deep blue, see some of the stuff they talk about, you will need to have an edge on this to proceed.
