Hello, I have only just got into the sport.
Could you tell me if getting a chest protector is a wise investment?
I don't mind the pain of the paintballs but my friends say it's a must.

Nah, they are pretty useless.
I got one when I started years ago. Pretty sure it's still in next to mint condition.

its down to personal preference to be fair.

I have noticed a few players down my way have bounce vests and they say it helps not only reduce pain but also increases the chance of balls bouncing (of the times I've played along side them, I have yet to see it happen :p) Then again, I'm sure quite a lot of players use em hah so they must work to some degree.

as for chest protectors, I rarely see anyone use em (punter or player).

now just out of curiosity, do your friends play a lot and with their own gear?

If so, they may be referring to a bounce vest in which case, up to you.

if not, could be they don't like being hit and trying to warm you of it. (doesn't hurt that much :D)
i don't know, just taking a guess

hope this helps :)

Ahh won't get one then, any recommendations for starter marker?
As i was told when i started up (and completely ignored, which i shouldn't of as they were right):
follow the trinity = Mask, Marker, Loader (I know its missing air tank but hey :p)

Vision is key in paintball as is key protection. Cant really deal out death if you cant see :p

As for a marker, what sort of paintball do you plan on playing? a lot of players start with a low end marker and then end up wasting tons of money buying upgrades and newer markers (like me :p). try to pick a marker your gonna stick with for a long time.

i wear a bounce vest when i play, saves on the bruising, also has the added bonus of bouncing some hits :D

bounce vests suck xD when i started i wore army shirt and trousers that was all. gotta love the bruises!

depending how prone you are to getting shot in the nuts perhaps some slide shorts are a good future investment.

equipment depends on budget.

as said above, MASK deffo most important, if its uncomfy or doesnt fit right what good is it as you cant take it off so you play a scenario game for 5 hours its on your face for that time, high price doesnt always mean comfy its best to go try some on.

guns, personal preference, start with budget then look at scenario or tourny. people in store, online or at sites can offer their advice but tbh when i pick one up i know if its for me or not. i just think what would rambo look like with this

hehe diaboro did the same as me then, and most others i bet :D tbf they can end up sweet. but it does work out cheaper to just get a better gun to start with.

Well I got all the padding u can get but play tournaments has saved me. Few times I deffently see less bruises with the stuff on but it gets hot in decent weather. As for starter markers p.e do decent 1 the etha seen tht at tournaments. The eteck, and mini are gd choice 2

Bounce vests are fantastic in the cooler months but can be a real drag in the summer on long games. Also look at the GoG enmey great gun at a good price.
