The important thing to remember if you find yourself in the 50/snake is to take your time and think things through. Its no use whatsoever coming out of your bunker, and trying to hose down 3 opponents in one snap movement. Pick your first man, working in from a tape, play tight, come out on him and hose him until you see your paint break on him, when hes out, wrap round a little more and do the next one etc... Same goes for playing the snake..
Another important thing to remember is that when you're in the 50 or the snake, you dont necessarily have to do anything at all to be of major value to your team.
You watch any rookie team out there on a field, as soon as some1 calls "SNAKE HOT" or whatever, half if not all of that teams guns end up pointing at one man lying down in the snake. This gives players on the other side of the field a perfect opportunity to move around, go mugging, bump up, wrap, have a smoke, pretty much whatever the hell they want! The fact is when you're sitting there in the snake you're going to have a lot of attention on you, if you can live in there, you'll be helping your team no end just by sticking it out.
Aside from speed and aggression the main skill needed by a 50/snake player is being able to play incredibly tight to your bunker and snap out on opponents one by one to break down their lockdown on you.
