Paul: OTP is famous for using the silly coloring system, and sometimes the coloring scheme is good only within the batch it was made with. Brahiem I guess wanted to save money on the extra step of stamping the inserts with their sizes, plus when he originally started his coloring system, the inserts were very small and thin compared with the inserts used today. In addition to using a "silly" coloring system, he also did something I'll never understand to this day, which is to reverse thread the insert to barrel interface. This means that if you tighten the barrel onto the gun (with the insert installed), you really can't lock the barrel tight to the gun because you'll unscrew the insert. Maybe this is why I was donated a G3 barrel system. Then I went an got a G3 clone 'cause I liked the color match and the SS backpiece...I wonder about myself sometimes, but with an Intimidator I can get away with just loc-titing in the largest ID insert and never changing it.

Had the same problem with my G3. Ended up replacing it with a Freak.

Question - anyone know if the Pipe system uses aluminum or stainless backs? I can't find this info anywhere.

Thanks ;)

Hi Shamu: The G3 is made by OTP :)

The Evil Pipe system is currently all aluminum, including the backs. I prefer SS, but the Pipes shoot pretty good.

I know why...

I just did some work on somebody's cocker. They had a barrel on it the was (I think) the old Bob Long series. Little bitty inserts at the back, screw together for no apparent reason. Anyway, I couldn't get the thing off 'til I took off the front pneumatics. Couldn't get a grip around the back, see. So I wondered to myself, "why don't they just make left hand threads on the front to back connection..."

Seemed like a good idea at the time. One man's problem is another man's solution...

Gyroscope: Thanks for the insight...but since Brahiem is an old Pro Player, I still don't understand the decision...I mean, he'd rather have a barrel that's guaranteed to come loose (even during a game) rather than a barrel that's guaranteed to stay tight?
Oh well, I guess that's on the same scale as being happy that I'm basically given a new hopper at the HB NPPL, and then going back to my gun (you weren't allowed to take your gun to the hopper repair area) and discovering that the new hopper had a neck so wide that it didn't even fit my widest drop tube comfortably. Good News/Bad News :(
What I do since I now shoot a 'Timmy is that I pick the largest sleeve and loc-tite it in place. If I were to use the G3 for my 'Cocker, I'd get frustrated since I'd never know which insert to use 'til I got the paint I was going to shoot.
