has anybody out there gotten one of these? and if so how is it compared to other barrel systems like the freak or CP or whatever

I think you are mistaking the Pipe system for the Empire barrel system. The Pipe (from Evil) is a 6 piece barrel set, one front and 5 rear sections and retails in the UK for £149.99 I believe from Mr Piper (how apt!) at Extreme Rage Europe.

Only one of our guys got one since PMI only had Imp. threads, no 'cocker ones for the weekend. His barrel rocked. The fit was much better than the demo barrel, and the balls seemed to want to go where you pointed the gun. Everyone said that the gun was a little quieter with the Pipe on it, but I'm hard of hearing anyway. The barrel case is kinda neat (it's, it's own display stand) but a little odd shaped when you're packing it away. The finish was excellent.

Saw the "pipe" @ the indoor as a teamate was giving it the once over, it seems like a well made and pretty looking piece of kit, the only downside is if you change markers you gotta buy it all over again, unlike a freak where you just need to replace the back........

The pipe is good because there are no "inserts" which is a theoretical bonus, its good value for money, supposedly nice and accurate and good build quality - eg calibre written on the barrel instead of that silly colouring system where you need a manual to know the calibre.
FWIW, when Evil Factory Team played at HB (and won) about the only piece of kit they all had in common was the Pipe (since the Omen still isn't ready.) Clearly works for them.
