Im not trying to say that its ok for him to slag us english off, because you can easily count that as racism, and I am certainly not one for racism. When i posted that post, I didnt mean it to sound like your in the wrong at all, if anything your the one in the right! I just thought it sounded a little harsh about you telling him that there was no way he could make it onto legion. He probably couldnt, ive trained with him before! Iv seen him play. I just thought it was a bit 'Out of line' to tell him that he couldnt make it. I know if I got that far in the game, went for trials, and then my ex coach was telling me I couldnt make it, I would be upset by that!Robbo said:

Eastie, I think you are misunderstanding something here, he has already gone to the Legion and gave it the Billy Big 'un while he was out there and then came back telling everybody that it wasn't for him and it's not what he wanted to do, he forgets that I meet up with the guy who owns the team every month or so and so i know what went down with Mak and it wasn't that he was fed up with it, he just wasn't good enough.....that's all !!eastie said:

On this whole England failure - the thing that annoys me is how much these guys are paid to put on an average (at best) performance for the fans and our country. Beckham earns something around 80 million a year, half of that is from Gillette - for now. I don't know how much the other players earn but it's no doubt crazy money.
These guys are meant to be athletes, yet they were complaining about the heat in the first match and physically they don't seem in good shape...someone get Peter Crouch a calorie shake for christ's sake, you can see the guy's skull pressing though his face!
Our team lost because they were inferrior, I don't think they deserved to win at all, they are too busy showing MTV Cribs around their homes to win that kind of tournament. If they were TRULY hungry to win it would have shown in their abilities, stamina, the works. I read we had less shots on goal in our WC than Germany have had in EACH of their games so far. Just seemed to me like we were scraping through the games we won. As the saying goes...'players can win games, but teams win tournaments' - we depend on the odd glory boy getting a goal... the team was not fit to win, so they lost.

I agree the money is a big issue - the Brazilians in the "old days" were fantastic, mainly as most if not all came from poor backgrounds and had the desire to win... imagine coming from the poor streets of Brazil kicking oranges around to playing on the worlds biggest stage - ala Pele, Socrates etc.. (i've met Socrates - nice bloke!)
The current Brazilian team, (all except 2) came from poor backgrounds and when they won the last world cup, they had the hunger to succeed and peform on the biggest stage - unfortunately they get too rich and that desire fecked off - if you watched the brazil game you will know the big 4/5 players i refer too.
I reckon a lot of that is the same with England (not from poor backgrounds as such) but the desire to win and show you are a world class footie player - Owen hargreaves, Joe Cole, Aaron Lennon have the drive to win and succeed (as would Defoe if he'd been taken!) - the others just seemed to turn up with the "we WILL win" attitude, then wondered why we were **** afterwards - only on Friday was Gerrard and Lampard saying the were coming into form at the right time... lol yeah right...
They are probably after the gillette ads now becks is no longer captain!
Take the money away and make it something they have to achieve - then see how they do... Although, i would probably expect that if you had the chance to wear the shirt - money shouldnt be a motivating factor.
Was it the Saudi President ot royal family that promised to buy and bought them all a Rolls Royce each if they won a game in the last world cup???? - cant remeber now, but it made them try to win one!!
Not saying that dangling the carrot is the solution - just get a tactically aware manager for a starters - and hopefully we might start performing!
Anyway - im putting a bet on for the next worldcup this morning!
