isnt the official rule that if anything you take onto the field gets hit then your out?
i.e. if you drop a pot then it gets shot it counts just like if you had got shot.

might have changed iv been out the loop for a while now.

but if its still true then why would you use a pot to block a gap when it could get shot then your out.
Nope, pods are classed as "disposables" so they can be dropped and left behind and can be shot etc.

Hoppers, shoes, gloves, guns, packs etc cannot be classed as such :p

Pods get classed as "disposables" aslong as you throw them away from your person, i think the ruling is 6 foot or more, thats why you see Pro players throwing there pots away, and not just dropping them infront of them.

not sure if this is right, but when players go onto the fields, they can get checked for bounce, or a cheating marker etc, so, after they have been checked, would they not refill there hoppers, and that give's them a half full/empty pot... this is where i'm not to sure on, but they may have to carry that empty pot, until the game begins, and then they can throw it away (if they remember..

just my guess, could be wrong :p

I don't think thats right mate, you're getting confused with another rule.
As soon as you drop your pot then its discarded. Also the rule counts for pull throughs so I don't see why it wouldn't count for fluffies.

Incorrect, you dont have to carry the pot, you can discard it but obviously off field
