As far as bang for your buck goes, an Impulse is one of the better values available currently. As stock markers they are relatively cheap, there are many upgrades available (if you decide you want them) and they have pretty good customer service/support available. If you want to go slightly more expensive, there are many (20+) different "custom" Impulses available with cool milling and ano jobs.

what a load of bollocks. cockers are one of the most reliable markers out there. the problems arise when people who do not know what to do start fiddling with them. my cocker has almost 100K cycles on it and it has never had a problem.

if angels are so reliable how come at most tournements there is a queue of people waiting for an angel tech to fix them??
(i'm not saying they are all unreliable so no one flame me but cocker v's angel for reliability come on!)

cocker reliability

I mean no offense to any current cocker owners, but if you look at the track record over the life of the gun which is around ten years, they haven't had a good time of it.
Modern guns like the shocker, angel ect., are basically electronic versions of the manual valve system used by the cocker, so the design principle is sound, but through the life of the cocker it has proved to be very complicated and extremely difficult for the average paintballer to maintain and repair.
As far as the long queues for angel repairs, people are using wdp's free repair service for quick and reliable repairs, instead of learning how to fix the guns themselves, which are really quite simple to repair.
Paintball guns need to be maintained by the owner, but due to the high initial cost, people are frightened to open the thing up and play around inside, which is a shame.
I hope the cocker in it's present state enjoys the same following of dedicated owners, as it did years ago when it was competing with the mag, because it's a very good gun and without it's presence ten years ago there probably wouldn't have been a shocker or angel, but face facts the angel, just like the automag years ago, is a more "user-frendly" gun.

ok ur right. electronic marker are much more reliable and maitenance free than cockers. i stand corrected

and in the real world i'll keep shooting the cocker while ur shaking your £1000 marker about cos the boards gone again
:)

oh, and i have had an lcd and an ir3. the lcd had a cold fault and the ir3 had to have its board replaced under warranty with less than 2000 on the counter

electric or not

There have been mags, cockers, shockers, impulses, led's, lcd's, ir3's and they all go wrong sometime. Everything in paintball is made by companies trying to get a foothold and make a name for themselves. These new electronic guns simplify the gas control issues that the cocker handles at it's front end, and without a doubt the electronic control is more versatile, unfortunately it still needs to become bulletproof. But given a bit more time, there will be no more need for faster and lighter guns and things will settle down and failures will be a thing of the past.

I do stand by my advice though

What sort of paintball are you playing? Rec ball/tourney?
I started off with a mag - reliable, cheap, easy to maintain, lightweight and I could play really tight with it. Then I moved onto a cocker which is just as reliable and I play just as well with it. Played with a shocker somewhere along the line, I think it's being used as a door stop somewhere.
I never moved to electric because of hot/cold/rain etc seems to affect all of them at some time or another. But after playing Toulouse I'm gonna have to go faster. I've borrowed an Angel and an E-blade and I'm tempted with both!

My advice to you is to listen to people who buy their own marker and not those that are sponsored cos they'll tell you what their sponsor wants to hear. :)
