Ego velocity spikes

Hi guys
Been using my ego for a few months now and everytime I put it over a chrono it spikes around 40fps over the average reading for one shot in around 10. The readings themselves are also not as consistent as Id like, this was the latest string of 10 I tested on sunday:

Any idea what could be causing this spike (as obviously, to avoid it spiking over 300 I need to keep the average veloctiy at around 250 to be sure) This doesnt bother me having to keep the velocity down, but what does bother me is the fact that it IS spiking and isnt the +/-4fps I was enjoying with my A4 Fly

The marker is using a 4500psi Crossfire LP Preset with CP OOPS everything is standard parts.

You tried giving the inline reg a good clean and lube?

aswell as the above, I'm sure this has to do with your LP preset.
Try the gat on a HP preset to see if it does the same, if not then you need to fiddle with your LPR and dwell settings.

Possibly is worth trying this but the other thing to look at when you clean your inline reg is whether or not the piston has a black seal in the top of it. If not, i believe (quite possibly wrong) that this can cause the pressure in the inline to fluctuate quite a bit making it inconsistent. I'll see if i can find the post.

I think you've got the break the reg in abit. A few months you say.....how many cases do you reckon you've shot?

Does anyone know...or have noticed, the difference between the top of teh piston on some star regs?
Some are flat while others are dished...any difference...?

fair point but i think it varies a bit too much for that
ive got my ego6 with about 10 k shot (although my counter says 30k cos of trigger messing haha) and over the chrono the other day i got 292 288 288 288 288 and yes i reset the chrono between each shot so these things can be consisitent when new....

Out of interest what paint are you shooting?

Some paint is incredibly inconsistent, but recently one of the most consistent paints i have shot has been Proto paint.

Thanks for replies, sorry for delayed reply, I left for Spain just after I posted this. I will try cleaning the reg and see if I can get a go on a HP preset. The marker is second hand and Ive shot a fair few cases since I had it so I imagine its already broken in.


Paintwise, it seems to do it with every paint I use to be honest. Ill see what I can do with the advice so far, cheers
