Dynasty Signs With...

Gudmann

huh ?
You're right about one thing

that hese are good products....

But that is not enough...

The photograhers case market is a highly specialized market with it's own brands and reputation. JT's entry into that would be as just another new brand trying to establish itself. Nobody in the 35+ avid hobbyist photographer market knows anything about JT or it's coolness factor, unless perhaps some of them used to own a dirt bike 15 - 20 years ago and wore JT jerseys.

Until JT has been established as a brand of cool tough woven gear products, by a lot or airtime at high rated shows, can they extend their product line and marketing into other markets such as this one.

And this market might not even be attractive to JT, it's often best to stick to doing what you know best...key competence and all that...

Hrm...I must have just edited my post as you were typing that.

Oh, to tie this back to SP buying Dynasty, (as began several, several posts ago) I'm saying it's a small example of point to the bigger picture: misalignment of priorities for both parties involved. Dynasty should be more interested in selling themselves to non paintball companies and outside media and be a party to this move that's clearly for SP's motives for which Dynasty simply bit the bait. Smart Parts should STOP, AND THIS GOES FOR EVERYONE STOP this inane philosophy of "What can we do to get more market share? Oh of course, go pillage everyone else!" There's just too much cannibalism in this sport rather than actual attempts at new growth and expansion, because A. it's often ego driven B. they're extremely myopic and C. they don't know how to do any better, certainly should as any business, and for damn sure better learn and start practicing better if our sport is going to get anywhere. It can be done, so tiresome blathering of excuses, whining, and passing the buck needs to stop. Right now.

Alone, no. Individually, yes, taking some form of initiative. Individual companies need to make their own efforts to establish brand name identity and maximize creativity and timeliness which get lost by involving more sets of hands. Establishment of long term, persistent, effective, penetrating promotion needs to be the #1 goal, not flash in the pan ridiculous stunts. Collaborative PR efforts are nearly always crap from any industry--like a sermon put together by ten preachers from ten different religions so much gets crossed out that there's nothing left--and from paintball, it's either non existant, has more holes in it than a collander, or a big joke. They've either been lazy, cowardly, ignorant, or incompetent so far...if not various combinations of all of the above. An aspect of this whole issue that in my mind stinks is that the particular move made by SP MIGHT, JUST MIGHT have been a purely to stab the NPPL. If it is in fact the case, which given the actions that have been taken by SP of late would not at all be uncharacteristic, then it's just another episode of the selfish, childish bickering between the two leagues which is uncalled for on both parts and based on intentions clearly not at all beneficial to the sport as a whole.

But Dynasty shooting a Shocker has no impact on them also being sponsored by Gatorade or Oakley. They are concerned about one thing: Getting the money to play this sport professionally. Whether that's from inside the industry or outside, it's all money. And with the agent they've got, I'd be very surprised if they weren't already looking at outside sponsors.

Nick's already made all the right points on this one, so I won't regurgitate. (by the way, well said, Nick!)

My arguement wasn't hinging on that at all, merely a for instance as a side issue, but oh well. Read it as what you will. We've spent the better part of a day reading what each other have written back and forth, and quite a worthy excercise at that! I think we agree more than we disagree, actually. Either way, at least we're both thinking a lot!

Oswald did kill JFK, the movie was totally wrong, there is no conspiracy...

Whichever way you slice it KO, SP's buying of Dynasty was a very good move for them and will help the sport grow. The more money invested in an established team, the better they will get.

"We haven't seen any of the same because not one smidgeon has been put forth at all for such, and it's just fuggin ridiculous folks. Disgraceful in fact."

Taking a mass-marketing approach to paintball would be financial suicide and generate fewer returns than consumer orientated, asset-led or segmented marketing as we see with wdp's 'quality' image. 200 people could see an angel advertised on a bill-board and nobody will buy 1, 100 paintball enthusiasts see the angel in pgi, 20 people might buy 1, this is why targeted marketing brings greater returns for this kind of industry.

Throwing money at marketing pball through mass marketing would not generate much growth in the paintball market as the macro economics do not work. You cannot compare normative goods like coffee to luxury items like paintball gear in terms of what will generate market growth, the sport needs much more internal growth before it will have the ability for real appeal in the larger population. Wdp are taking the right approach by investing in super7/Fox Net, but time will tell whether or not this is too much too soon.

"Smart Parts should STOP, AND THIS GOES FOR EVERYONE STOP this inane philosophy of "What can we do to get more market share? Oh of course, go pillage everyone else!" "

If you seriously expect any company to not protect its property rights and look for more market share you must have your head in the sand. If you want to moan at someone about that kinda thing, go stand outside Glaxo SmithKline hq with a sign!

This move by SP was in no way a stab at the NPPL, ok it could be viewed as a small bonus, but nothing compared to the benefits they are gonna recieve from having Dynasty under their brand or the benefit to the sport as teams improve and become more professional.

To Nick's point:

What a "smart" move by WDP! Knowing that Dynasty wouldn't be party to any deal that kept them from playing anywhere and as often as they want, especially NPPL, WDP are letting SP spend all the money to get them to play at their (Pure Promotions) events. In other words Pure Promotions will have the attractiveness of having Dynasty (and likely Strange) at their tournaments without it costing them a dime.

Meanwhile some other teams will display Angels without the gigantic sums required by Dynasty.

Mmm, but i sincerely doubt that no other team will win as much as Dynasty will next year shooting Angels.

My thoughts- In all honesty, Dynasty will still win everything next year, shooting their Shockers.
