DYE is allowed in the Millennium series

Beaker...

I have absolutely no problem with them calling a shirt "illegal".

The point I was trying - obviously unsuccessful - to make is - has anyone from the rules comittee checked to see how much padding there is. Or did they just say "Dye says their shirt has padding - so let's ban it".

I know this may seem silly - but I just get the feeling that more is being made of this than needs to be (by myself included - but I have nothing better to do right now :)).

If we are going to get all high & mighty when it comes to banning "padded" shirts & other things - then you had might as well write a rule that states players must play in skin tight jerseys. This way there will be no padding or "air pockets" that naturally form from the folds of your shirt.

Actually the idea you had (test shooting a jersey) would be a welcome statement from the rules comittee. At least then it shows they have put some thought & research into things instead of outright banning things. Hell they do it in other sports - take golf for example, they don't just ban a new driver (like they did a few years back with the new Calloway's) without testing it first. It would also save on the embarassement later if they decide to let it slide - they can say "hey we tested it and it doesn't give an advantage".

Again - I really could care less - won't play in one if they are illegal, and I also think that padding should be kept to a minimum (only when actually providing protection) but I do think that some testing is needed before a group of officials bans shirts from one of the top companies (I could understand if players where showing up looking like the Michelin man in homemade bubble wrap shirts - but an industry leader??).

My problem isn't with the shirts being banned - but the fact that the rules state that a shirt is banned for padding, but it doesn't define what "padding" is or give any requirements for what is allowed - one refs "padding" is anothers "protection". I like beaker's idea of a test system - oh well maybe in the future...

P.S. Headrock have you tested them? and can you say for 100% certainty that they will give more bounces? or are you just assumiing that they will? I don't believe the rules comittee has...

Dude :)

I don't believe they specifically said that DYE shirts in themselves were banned, just that the rules stating that there can only be padding on certain body parts (elbows, knees etc) was going to be more strictly enforced.

As shoulders are not on that list of body parts that need padding, it happens that the DYE shirts therefore fall outside the rules and hence banned.

It's not that the Millennium has looked at DYE tops and decided the padding is enough to ban them, they have just stated the only "legal" jerseys can only have certain padding. The DYE ones have more so therefore fall outside those rules so don't make themselves legal rather than the Millennium making them illegal.

Get my drift?

Nah,i completely understand where your coming from but theres absolutley no reason for the padding to be there and thats why I think the decision was made..Its like putting padding over your stomach...No reason for it and im sure they would ban that to if that was the case without testing it...

Im playing the last two NiPPLe events so it affects me 2...But seriously, when I bought the jersey I knew exactly what Dye was trying to accomplish even though it wasnt printed on the label..

To be honest, after seeing some of these guys wearing pants / jerseys that look like they're tents, that wouldn't be a BAD idea. I've got some tape here of some guy who's jersey gves him WIND RESISTANCE when he runs into a bunker.

I find it funny, the history of 'corporate padding'. I've got a JT cap that's mostly padded NEOPRENE. Pics available upon request....

See, I hate little freaks like you, wearing 3XL jerseys when a MEDIUM would fit perfectly. It's becasue of FREAKS like you I can't buy a jersey that FITS me!!!! I can't find a DECENT pair of pants to fit either because DYE makes their stuff to fit a small rump like yors, and not a big guy like me!

And it wasn't you. It was an American.

6ft1,252 and a 38 waist hardly qualifies me as little...And I dont think a Medium is gonna cut it..****,I couldnt get a Medium over my dog..But I do sympathize with ya..It is tough finding a Jersey that fits..And Id recommend the JT pro series pants..JT cares about us plump players..Maybe we can file a lawsuit against Dye for discrimination of us fattys...And while were at it,maybe the clothing store Structure..Their X-L is like spandex on me..(not a pretty sight by the way)..

They say "Texas, a whole other country". I feel the same about New York. Hell, each BORROUGH is another country!

I jut hate seeing these short guys in the "flowing robes" of clothing. I may start playing in my cloak again if it doesn't get resolved. Actually, it MY be why DYE put in padding in the shoulders, to make it EVEN for us big guys?

And as for hte "Spandex" crack, my wife claims that some of the jereys out there are like "cheap swimsuits". Me? I'm not sure. I wouldn't wear a microfiber thong. Itching. Yick.

Sure I do, and have no problem with it...

But it seems strange that the rule - although not entirely new, just re-worded & emphasized for 2003 - has only been the hot topic since the World Cup, when Dye released their new shirts - where they stated that it had "padding".

Until we have specifications for what constitutes "padding" then it is silly to ban something.

There are all sorts of requirements that equipment in other sports have to live up to - length, size, weight etc - and if companies manufacture anything that is outside these specifications then they are screwed. But nowhere in any of the rule books has anyone stated what constitutes padding (thickness, type, effect = number of bounces).

That's why I think we should have a test - and I definatley think it should be called the "Beaker Test" because it is a good idea (no sarcasm - I mean it).
