Beaker...
I have absolutely no problem with them calling a shirt "illegal".
The point I was trying - obviously unsuccessful - to make is - has anyone from the rules comittee checked to see how much padding there is. Or did they just say "Dye says their shirt has padding - so let's ban it".
I know this may seem silly - but I just get the feeling that more is being made of this than needs to be (by myself included - but I have nothing better to do right now ).
If we are going to get all high & mighty when it comes to banning "padded" shirts & other things - then you had might as well write a rule that states players must play in skin tight jerseys. This way there will be no padding or "air pockets" that naturally form from the folds of your shirt.
Actually the idea you had (test shooting a jersey) would be a welcome statement from the rules comittee. At least then it shows they have put some thought & research into things instead of outright banning things. Hell they do it in other sports - take golf for example, they don't just ban a new driver (like they did a few years back with the new Calloway's) without testing it first. It would also save on the embarassement later if they decide to let it slide - they can say "hey we tested it and it doesn't give an advantage".
Again - I really could care less - won't play in one if they are illegal, and I also think that padding should be kept to a minimum (only when actually providing protection) but I do think that some testing is needed before a group of officials bans shirts from one of the top companies (I could understand if players where showing up looking like the Michelin man in homemade bubble wrap shirts - but an industry leader??).
My problem isn't with the shirts being banned - but the fact that the rules state that a shirt is banned for padding, but it doesn't define what "padding" is or give any requirements for what is allowed - one refs "padding" is anothers "protection". I like beaker's idea of a test system - oh well maybe in the future...

P.S. Headrock have you tested them? and can you say for 100% certainty that they will give more bounces? or are you just assumiing that they will? I don't believe the rules comittee has...
