what are the most common bores for paint in british tournament play?

for instance i am considering buying 2 of 4 dye boomsticks

these are the bore sizes

.686 .690

.684 .694

which would be best 2? or safer 2 to have?

so i dont get too small or too big?

any help is appreciated

thanks

Well a standard boomy is .688 which fits most tourney paint I have used. Nelson anarchy, Zap chronic, Severe, probably more but I haven't used them. Never had a need for a smaller bore than the .688 so I'd probably go for one of them and a slightly larger one :)

i guess it depends on what paint you use most but standard size is .686 these days or .688 on the older ones

i personally have a standard one and am thinking of getting a smaller one as the severe im shooting these days tends to be slightly small for it

where are you getting them from in different bores? as far as i know they are special order only

Bottomline: If you're going to be using different brands of paint, the bore sizes are going to differ. I realized this after years of trying to find different barrels for my marker to fit all brands of paint, and I broke down and bought an Evil Pipe barrel system. Best investment I've ever made, and it cost me hundreds less than buying different barrels with all those different bore sizes would have. If you are going to go with 2 Boomies though, I'd say .686 and .690. That should keep you pretty well set for medium/small and medium/large bore paint

Most professional paintball players right now do not use any bore size except a large bore. Recently I was talking with a player on Oakland Assassins and he told me that the team pretty much only uses the .695 freak insert on their intimidators, and he said that they "shoot better" with large bore paint. How true that is I don't know, but he has no financial insentives or obligations to be saying that. I've also heard many other teams practice using large bore sizes. By using a bore size larger than the paint you're using you decrease the chance of breaking a ball in the barrel with minimal decreases in efficiency and nothing notable in accuracy. Matching the bore of your barrel to the paint was hype that was created by Smart Parts to sell more products and proliferated by SP and many other barrel companies until it was accepted by the masses. In fact I have found as long as you have a quality barrel (ie Dye boomstick series) and a moderately large bore size (.688 and up) you will not have any problems no matter what size paint you use (as long as it's not below seconds quality). I hope this enlightened some people:D

I got news. Too large a bore, and your paint bounces down your barrel instead of having a straight flight path and you lose at least some air, because it's traveling around AND behind the ball instead of just traveling behind it. That was discovered by testing done by Tom Kaye years before the Freak barrel was even released. A good paint to bore match does help. You are right on one count though, it's much better to have too large a bore than too small.

I'm only going off what a player on the best NXL team as of now says. This "bouce down the barrel" that you speak of is minimal, and will not cause paint to break in your barrel or affect your accuracy. Efficiency will be lessened by a large bore size, but it also virtually eliminates the chance of breaking a ball in your barrel, so it's a trade off. And realistically, in 7 man, front guys aren't shooting more than 5 pods off a 45/45, mid guys more than 8 off of a 68/45, and back guys about 10-15 off an 88/45 or larger. The only one I can really see where it might be a close call is for a back man. Just fill up after your game like you normally would. This isn't a problem for the Assassins and other teams and it shouldn't be a problem for you.

Don't buy the hype.;)
