Tournament players will not stop shooting a lane because there is a ref or photographer behind their target! Its in their job description, and we just have to realise that if we get shot, its our fault, Ask any ref worth their salt. also there are many unexpected bounces off Sup'air bunkers, you rarely get that with trees! Come and find me sometime and I'll bore you on the subject of photographers fieldcraft. Of course, there is no explanation for retards!
I expect it if I'm at the back or in a corner, that way if I'm looking towards photo opportunities then the chances are I'm in someone's line of fire
The best hits on me have been around the snake area, and in theory not in a line of fire (unless it was face on from the middle or other side)
A glancing blow off the snake from a back corner probably accounts for them - that could make it still a strong hit at less of an angle and seem parallel to the game

Started taking pictures at CPPS this year and wondered what lens other people where using and why?
Hi. I would hate to take a DSLR into a paintball game. You will probably find someone who finds it amusing to shoot at you, which is not amusing if your holding expensive gear.

Depends on your point of view - a dslr will survive a bit better than a compact camera, consider it a precision tool. Never use it and there's no point having it

I would not be so inclined to put thousands into a camera and then get it shot, I'm not so worried at a hundred or two - but I want the photos

You will be shot with a camera, a dslr can have the body and lens seperated so you will only lose the one that is broken

I have had the flash shot with a direct hit, I was unimpressed, particularly as I was taking the guys photo and could see him pose, think and then decide to shoot me
However there was no damage other than requireing a tricky cleanup afterwards

Modern DSLR's are built well, and even entry level ones provide good sharp images. That's probably the route I'd go if I was shooting games, events. All you want to do is capture the moment, and for a couple hundred pounds, if something does get damaged it's not a huge sum of money to worry about. I've never seen any prints of paintball being played. They would make for great pictures. Do you sell them for money or just like doing it as a hobby??

Far from sellable, just an amateur with a camera
(Or to be more precise - an idiot with a camera*)

Took the odd picture in game in the past on phones and compact cameras, then to a bridge for a bit better and next to dslr (nothing fantastic, an olympus e450), and do either general game pictures, some photosets of our events and supporting the postal cpps team

I'm a nightmare to be around when I've got the camera out

And i am stupid enough to enjoy being shot at or standing in the middle of a mosh pit, hence 'an idiot with a camera', recently made official so only a couple of cpps rounds at the moment:
