ban the damn things.......retailers stop selling them....manufactureres stop packaging them with markers...players stop handing them down/selling them on...throw em in the bin!!!!!

the idea behind them is to stop the ball leaving the barrel.....ok BUT in reality what happens.......the damn plug flies out and does as much if not more damage than the ball would have...and it does nothing about the next ball.
ditto jamming fluffys/squeegies down barrels......are you nuts!!!

ive seen countless rec players (admitidly less recently) with plugs in markers........and how many of them have sneeked their marker into 3 shot burst mode or full auto or ramping.
and ive definatly seen players at tornies with the fluffy thing going on.

i know a lot of tournies ban them already but that is not where the ban should be enforced......sock it or get lost!

The last person blinded in paintball was by a gun that had a barrel condom on it...

Any item is only safe if well design and properly implemented.

Some barrel plugs are safe, some aren't. I believe the Safe'T' plug is the only one that meets ASTM standards currently.

Someone has now patented the barrel condom (who in my opinion didn't invent it) and is trying to enforce royalties on every one sold. I think it's despicable they are doing it on such an important piece of safety equipment.

Education and implementation are the most important things. Even a lot of condoms are not correctly tensioned or fitted properly or made from decent material or worn to the point of failure etc...

very true a barrel sock must also be of sufficent quality to do the job propperly.....but by the nature of the way it is constructed it is surly a more obvious design when looking for the safest way to stop a ball being discharged, especially with modern markers and fire modes etc...
also you raise a good point about socks being worn to the point of being useless.....makes you wonder how many players change theirs frequently or is it a case of 'ill get a new one next time someone gives me one free or when i loose the old one'

most definaly agee that it is very bad form on the part of whoever is trying to claim royalties on a safety device....to think that it could be those few pennies that cost somoone else an eye!

site i went to said you should have a sock and a plug, worked well but it was very hard to find a plug that would fit in a sock/condom.

Much better to get hit in the eye with a barrel plug than a paintball. Especially a heavy barrel plug.

It's less likely to actually get past your eye socket and hit your eye, it doesn't fragment, and it absorbs a lot of the paintball's energy on the way out of the barrel so it's moving much slower than 300 fps (and it slows down quicker too).

Barrel condoms, that are well manufactured, are still preferable, but a well-manufactured barrel plug is sufficient, if more annoying to use.

Hey Manike, who is claiming a patent on barrel condoms?

Larry Cossio, who has now licensed it to Archon.

The actual inventor in my mind was Bully, the guy behind the UKPSF. I had one of his, and even flew with it to skyball 2000 before the claimed invention date on the Cossio patent.

Funny thing is, it was even stolen off my gun at Skyball!
