Dot is illegal in the Uk, only HSE is legal (Even though Dot bottles are tested better)

ok, simply, in the UK How is right. DOT = Bad HSE = GOOD

If you read more closely its kinda stupid.

The differance in test is something like
HSE drop a bottle from 10ft with a 15kg weight attached
DOT drop a bottle from 15ft with a 10kg weight attached

its something petty like that.

If you are not actually british. Ie American, south african (a number of guys down my local site pointed out that it was ok for south africans to use DOT) and basically of a nationality where in your home country DOT is the testing standard.
Then DOT bottles are legal for you to use.

I have heard that some big events in coming years will NOT allow DOT bottle to be used in british events AT ALL!!! regardless of nationality.

Basically, if you buy a marker with a DOT bottle, use it as a vase, or something, and get yourself a HSE tested bottle. Simple as that.

i know it sux, but its the law.
Ive been told by some well known UK retailers, (no not SP, Belsales, or Planet) that DOT bottles were legal in the UK. Trust me, thay arent.
If you want ALL the legalities (and they are hard reading) speak to Hotpoint (its one of the areas of knowledge thats been giving him a headache recently) or check out the UKPSF site.

and no, you cant get a DOT bottle tested / converted to HSE standard.

That help?

The reason for that being that the HSE don't test individual bottles, they don't just do a hydro test and slap an "approved" sticker on it. The manufacturer has to submit samples for test, and manufacturing process, materials used and quality control are all taken into account when certifying a bottle.

So they don't test a bottle, they test the product and approve it on that basis. If your model of tank is not HSE approved, it won't ever be. It costs quite a lot for a manufacturer to get approvals like that, so they only get the approvals they need to sell the product. You can get dual approved bottles (DOT/HSE) but they cost more, even though they're probably the same tank, because you're paying for the costs of getting that certificate.

If anyone is really interested what the test prototypes have to go through to get approval, look at:

I've heard when the bottles are being made the only difference between dot and hse was the sticker they put on em! also that dot bottles are tested (on a 4500psi) to 6000 psi and hse (4500psi) was 5000psi. so the health and saftey peeps claim the dot bottles have been over streched and are unsafe!
