Does Household/Automotive oil rot o-rings

That's it, I've read many posts about oil and which ones the best. Not including the proper stuff you can get from Paintball shops apparently sewing machine oils are good. I've been using normal household/automotive light oil, but I've seen somewhere that this is not good for the o-rings as it rots them. is this true?

i'd say that for the sake of a few quid its always worth using the proper lube (especially in impulses and shockers which use that dow 33 stuff). having said that tho the instructions for the armageddon say that you can lube it with 10/30w motor oil if you cant get the proper silicone stuff.
i think the major problem comes when people try to lube their markers with wd40 and stuff. wd40 is not nice stuff and will eat seals very quickly.
