I havent seen one person with a wrath in all of the tournys ive been to but ive seen loads of Ions. Go with the flow and get an Ion.
lol guns arent position-related mate, go with whatever you can get for youre budget, just dont forget its most likely that you'll be wanting at least a decent feedneck/barrel/bottomline setup, so decide how much you have got to spend then price up the different options.
Or better still buy my O3X!...its like an upgraded, better verison of a wrath for £250!

Just watched London Tigers play X-ball light at NSPL... And 80% of the players were using Ion's... Recall a DM4 and Shocker I think...
