Get yourself along to an event where there is a massive trade presense. Most of these see traders and gun manufacturers offering 'try before you buy' schemes.
You can have a good look at all the kit available, try some out and then make an informed decision.
If you then decide to buy 2nd hand off the forums, just remember the traders who were good to you and return the favour when you are ready to buy brand new kit in the future.
The Tippmann Challenge game is near you at Gatwick in August, it'll have the UK's biggest trade presense. Pop along for the Saturday and see the traders (it's free - it'll not cost you a penny) or better still buy a ticket and play some ball over the weekend, you can rent kit for a tenner (includes a brand new Tippmann marker).
