you can get covers that keep the bottle protected, basically you need to give it the same respect you give to your air bottle.
So in the case of the agg crowd, put a minuscule amount of athletic tape on the bottom of it and pummel it into the ground as much as possible. It makes your setup lighter don't you know...

Tools.

Seriously though, and back on topic, how much are are you looking at to buy a second hand (or would you recommend first hand) 12L 300 Bar. dive bottle, and all the adapters you'd need to fill it?

Unless you know the history of the bottle I personally would buy brand new. Your looking about £130 for a 300 bar 12l. Fill rigs about £40 - £75 but you can pick them up on here or ebay second hand. I've got a Din fitting fill station if anyone is interested. Two types, A clamp and Din fitting. Din fitting is the big hole and A clamp the small. A-clamp bottles can easily be adjusted to Din by using a allen key. If you buy a bottle get a handle and a boot. Store them whenever you can by lying them down and keep out of direct sunlight and away from any strong heat source.

My dive shop was well intrigued that I was using a dive bottle for paintballing and I did have a long conversation, but it was about paintballing.

If the bottle is only for you, then you may want to consider a fibre wrapped 7 litre or 9 litre firemans bottle. I have two 7L bottles and they're so light compared to the steel bottles, and it looks like they've started 20 year life spans with these bottles. They're available second hand at around £90 for the 7L, and about £120 for the 9L.
