Baca, I think any team that uses a powerful name from nature (Storm, Hurricane, Quake, Riptide, Avalanche, etc) pick the name superficially because it sounds strong, forceful and 'cool'. I don't think anyone, when picking a team name, really considers the devastated lives, orphaned children, sickness, disease and suffering of countless fellow humans that a disaster caused by their namesake can wreak.

An event such as this brings it home just what the consequences of these 'acts of nature' can be and only then do we really connect the name and the suffering and wonder if the name we chose was the right one.

BTW this is just my opinion and not that of the other umpteen members of Tsunami. We haven't discussed it as we haven't met together since Xmas, but no doubt we'll discuss it at training this Sunday.

I think it's silly that you should change your name too. I was merely expressing the opinion that the way the post was worded was offensive to the fact that so many people have died.

I can't believe that people are arguing over a NAME...
There used to be a team, not too long ago, by the name of Team Wehrmacht! Now that's silly.

First things first, what happened in Asia and Africa (to a lesser extent) was dreadful, something that one would wish would happen to no man. But it was one of those things that one would call a force of nature, or in the case of some, an act of God.
I think it's great that every country is coming up with staggering amounts of money to help out the stricken.
But at the same time, what makes me truly sick to my stomach is the fact that as we speak millions, not hundreds of thousands, but millions of people are threatened with death, while hundreds of thousands have already died, in eastern Sudan. Not by some merciless act of nature, like a tsuname, earthquake, drought, or other famine causing disaster, but by humans. Nearly a million people died ten years ago in Rwanda, within a six months span, at the hands of other people. And we did nothing.

So instead of spending energy on something as inconsequential as a team's name, you might want to think about that.

Absolutely. Three weeks ago nobody would have said boo. Nor do I think you ought to change your name but as your contact suggested there are potential ramifications, at least in the short term.

Jay, you ignorant slut. You are, of course, correct with regards the world circumstances but that's not really germane to this thread's tiny question. Is it silly to make an "issue" of this? Probably but as Gups reasonably acknowledged it's a possible problem for right now.

Au contraire, just pointing out why it is not worth (to me) making a fuss of this.

Keep the name, it's all good. I'm willing to bet that some sick monkey is already selling shirts saying "I survived the tsunami and all I got was this lousy shirt".

If anyone names their team "Genocide", we should rightly be upset, for any number of reasons.
