I think that it would be a great idea for Niall to have Novice 1/4 finals at the Campaign Cup, especially as time allows it and i'm sure that all the novice teams entered would relish the chance to play some extra games!
Basically i think that any team that qualifies for the Novice 1/4 finals wouldn't mind the extra expense purely due to the fact that they woule be getting extra games and a far greater sense of achievment from reaching the last 32!
Why not add incentives like paint prizes for the top 16 novice teams, so that any novice team that reaches the semi's and finals (and would incur further paint costs) at least has some of the cost covered. I'm sure that all of the major paint manufacturers realise that they will be selling a lot more paint to the teams due to another stage in the proceedings and wouldn't mind donating some to help make it more affordable.
This is the ideal chance to give the majority what they want, and give the lesser known teams a fair chance to shine. If you're a good novice team that makes the semi's don't panic because the competition is harder - get out there and earn your place!
How about having 4 divisions in the semis but with say, 6 teams in each division? That way you put 24 teams through rather than 16, they each get 5 games rather than 3 and you still have 4 teams in the finals. I'm sure there's nothing written down that there has to be a certain size of division for the semis.
The assistance should come only for the finalists as it is these guys who are playing the extra games ie games 17,18 and 19. Everyone attending has budgeted for 16 games otherwise we wouldnt be turning up!!!
Giving 32 teams the chance to be in the sunday club sounds good to me, especially as most will be Brit teams and this experience will be invaluable!!
Hmmmm, some good points here. Playing for a novice team I think that having a quarter finals on the Sunday gives us a greater chance of qualifing and the chance to play more ball, BUT, as I'm sure most other novice teams are, we are on budget and might make the quarters but then run out of paint. I hate to say it but I think the format should stay as it is for now. We will just have to make sure we play hard ball!
I think having a quarter finals is a good idea, and would help teams that have STAMINA (swearing in the paintball world) win through in the end. One downside in the whole quarter finals idea is that there will be more teams taking it easy on the saturday night. On the flip side of that, there will be less hangovers the next day, and more support for the quarter and semi finals that are traditionally played on the Sunday morning.
Overall, I say lets do the quarter finals. More games = more experience and will sort out the men from the boys. Pressure paintball is what big tournaments are all about
i have to agree with Mark T. Everyone on a team should be budgeting on playing 16 games anyway. The only "help needed" should be at the finals stage.
Also it makes it slightly fairer on teams that draw the absolute top pro teams out there. With a severely harsh cut it will come down to eliminations as to who goes through. I'm guessing damnfine novice teams will pick up less of those against someone like shock Lanche or Dynasty than against the slighyly weaker pro teams (no disrespect intended to anyone playing pro at campaign!)
However once again Niall you prove you have the little guys interests at heart by letting us voice our opinions before enforcing a decision. Cheers Mate!
