So heres the deal.

If you play novice at Campaign Cup. You will under the current rules have to place in the top 16 to play on Sunday in the Semi Finals. As there are over 80 teams you can see that the cut is really hard.

So my dilemna is this. I could ( millennium board agreeing) add a round of quarter finals so that the top 32 qualify. The top two in each division would go through to top 16 to Semis in the normal fashion.

Now the down side to this is If you play all the games right up the to the finals in Novice you will play 19 Games!!! That includes 9 on the Sunday!!

It can be done timewise.

My current line of thought is this.

1/ 19 games is too many
2/ I want the best Novice team to win not the "richest'
3/If teams elected to play Am they would mathmatically have a easier draw, So there must be an incentive for the sandbaggers to move up.

So guys and gals please give me your feed back..I need to decide one way or the other very soon.

Don't know if your hands are tied up too much, but how about letting 24 teams to the semifinals?? Under the certain circumstances wouldn't Millennium rules make an exception??

I TOTALLY agree with both of these points - with the extra games a good novice team might bomb in the finals, down to only being able to play hopper ball by then.
And playing on a truly novice level team, it'd be nice to see some of the "better" ;) novices move up into the am division.

Stick with the current format, no quarters.

(Oh yeah, and in advance, cheers for a top tourney :D)

Rob,

Im using this forum to get opinion. I'm not saying I'm going to change in fact I should have given the impression in my post that I thought the change was not the way to go. Its just I did't want a barrage of "We didn't get the opportunity" after the event. If the overwhelming opinion is to change we shall have to look at it, until then it stays as it is.

Quarter finals for the novice teams is a good idea given the amount of entry's or move the sand baggers up.
whatever you do you wont please everybody!

Wow, and I thought being a millennium organiser was all about money, cars, and women....

I can see your points, but in the end only the best should move on to the semis and finals. 'We didn't get a chance' isn't a valid argument, you just weren't good enough. As a matter of fact, this way you can see what the real good teams are, because only the ones that drop no points will move on, instead of the inevitable ones that get a fluke and win a few. If 32 teams go to the semis out of 80, reaching the semis doesn't say that you are good, NOT reaching the semis just says that you suck.

Just my views.

Good luck, and see you there Niall!

Well unless you have a HUGE round robin and every team plays every other team (hypothetically of course) then you will not find the top 16 teams anyway. If you have divisions then out of all of the nov teams more than 3 or 4 of the top teams could end up in the same division and some won't be able to reach the semis. Also some of the not so top teams could be in a relatively easy division and reach the semis without being one of the top 16 teams participating. So no matter what you do you are unlikely to get the top 16 teams into the semis so I say just stick with it as it is coz you can't win in a situation like this. Besides most of the teams going are there for the experience of a top millenium event, advancing is just a bonus.

I say leave it like it is for this year Niall. But for next year, try to come up with a team ranking system and hopefully that will get some of the sandbaggers in their proper division.
