I never made the connection. I think you're right!

WHAT DO WE WANT?

A FAIR SHAKE FOR IOWA!

WHEN DO WE WANT IT?

AS SOON AS FEASIBLY POSSIBLE, BUT PREFERABLY WITHIN THE NEXT 7 TO 10 DAYS!

I don't for a second want to make it sound like the NPPL sucks or anything. HANDS DOWN the best events in the world. And Huntington Beach was the most fun I've ever had.

BUT--the ID process was a debacle and it stole several hours of my fine trip to HB trying to sort it out only to be turned away. I want SOMETHING for my trouble. Well, besides the eye candy from the NPPL girls working the lines. :)

I'd be completely fine if the NPPL just said "hey, we are asking for 35 bucks membership fee for the year as well." I'd have paid it and not thought twice, but they tell me the reason they need 35 bucks (an extra 245 bucks per team AT LEAST) is to give me a photo id that increases the security of my gear (only players with valid IDs past this point!!!) and ensures that sandbaggers won't be playing against me (damn them for being better!). So I paid and got nothing--which is like saying I got neither heightened security nor insurance against sandbaggers. Plus I don't get a cool souveneir.

I tried taking care of it privately and have been assured I'll get it only to not. So I figure I'll raise it up here so maybe something gets done about it.

So, to clear the air, if you are only playing the NPPL for your plastic playing card, I'm sure you can have one made cheaper. The events are top notch. Just realize that the entry fee is actually at least $245 more than advertised. It's still worth it.

It was a joke, Knobbs. :p :) I have, in fact, made exactly the same arguments long, long ago and received more or less the same response I gave you. :D Also, I seem to recall a certain Iowan who suggested something similar to me in the past when I was going on about NPPL reffing last year on a couple of occasions. :p

An Iowan???? *I* live in Iowa! I can help you find that jerk and string him up! :D :D :D (now who could it be........)

I figured you were just having a good natured poke when it started out with "as it should be", but joke or not there was some truth to it--I don't want people to think I was trying to make the NPPL look bad overall.

Anyone who is paying attention must see that the NPPL is doing things that are incredible, that surpass all expectations. A few years ago, going to a tournament was like camping, kind of, in that you took for granted a degree of discomfort and inconvenience. Now that the standard of quality for events is higher, when an inconveinience crops up, it stands out more.

The identification card process is important, but there should be a smoother way to handle it. For example, while all those captains are sitting in a meeting for 2 1/2 hours, why not photograph the rest of his/ her (/yeah right) team? Why not have printers on site? The cards are nice and high quality, like so much else, but if the trade off is that cards are frequently not issued in a timely fashion (or at all) then maybe color photos could be sacrificed for faster production.

I know that the NPPL organizers anticipated this bottle neck, since they encouraged everyone to take care of pictures and all that before the first event this year via internet, but that didn't work smoothly. I know that out of 6 people I am acquainted with who sent in photos and info for their cards, only 2 received their cards at HB.

This aspect of the tournament is the most annoying and cumbersome IMO. I have full confidence that it will get worked out eventually.

Is the urge to brown nose an Iowa thang?

Both my PSP ID and Media pass were processed and handed over on nice laminate photo ID cards without any huge amount of hassle. Their system tracks individuals while the associated database keeps records of who played where and when. It actually appears to have a valid function other than "taxing" the players one more time or two or three depending on who you play for.

I'm still convinced the NPPL ID is nothing but an etra value add-on fee. If the cards mattered you'd have yours, right? You don't need them to register--you just need the receipt to prove you paid for them (or they need the record in their computer). And have you ever been asked for one to enter a field of play or do they simply check to see if you have the paper wristband?

Oh, and Gyro, they have it worked out just fine. You paid, didn't you?

Betting line forming to the left is now taking wagers on what a NPPL ID will cost next season and if Knobbs or Gyro receives theirs for 04 before they have to renew for 05. :D

Maybe if they hired the ID card people more for their capability and less for their appearance, we'd all have ID cards at the event. It's kinda tough to check for player IDs when only 1/3 of the players have them.

Yes, they had printers in Tampa. Unfortunately, they left them in the hotel room. Ooops. ~tee hee~

Point taken.

How is it brown nosing when I post under a goofy name that doesn't appear on any id I have? Do you have to have a prospect of benefiting in order to be a sycophant? I still haven't been able to locate "shamu" to collect on my incessant praise.

Nice bus, BTW.:)

$5 on not receiving before renewal. Unless the line on the left is too long.

2--What, your name isn't Gyroscope? Well, in that case. . . . you probably have a point.
3--he's the agg ultimate. I haven't found him either. Personally I think if he wore a large black and white fin on his back it would help.
4--the kids seem to like it when they crank up the sound system and listen to that rock n' roll music.
5--I don't know. I'm thinking anyone waiting for their card who sends member services an email this week will get a prompt reply. ;)
