Nick, there's a lot of 'not thinking' going on here then if that's the case, surely they can't have 'not thought' about all of these ?
Nah, no promoter of a Millennium event could possibly do that could they, I mean, isn't this what they are here for, for the benefit of the teams ?
Well, that's what we keep hearing anyway !

Is the nations cup meant to be taken seriously? Or is it a end of the day stuff around? Who would take part in that? Who is paying for the paint? If the teams are picked from the pro ranks, how would they feel about having to foot the bill for it?

Sounds really mercenary, alwaystalking about money, but thats the bottom line (cause Stone Cold said so!), if its too expensive, I don't see it happening very well, cause its shaping up as a sideline, & one that will be too much hassle.

Well..

You have my number Nicky, why dont you give me a call and I would tell you what happend and why the decision went that way. Robbo have done that so he knows what happend and why this nations cup came up.

Anyway I agree with you i would love to play X-ball only, hell you saw the new Joy-kids in Norway. They are born to play X-ball. But we need someone to finance the thing. Now dont bother about all people comming in here talking about us beaing cheap or greedy, its just bs. But to run Joy Masters or Mega or Max masters with up to 10-14 Pro teams gone for X-ball would make it financally impossible. And it would be hard to run a X-ball legue with only 2-3 events. Thats basicilly the problem.
Now on the other hand if the people thats financally going to gain when X-ball go off is willing to pay then we dont have any problem. The problem is to pinpoint whom that actuelly is.

If anyone is telling me that Im one off them then I would need
something real to show for when I go to the bank and ask for a loan.

And no the word "trust me" doesnt do it...

About the nations cup, either you like the idea or not. I mean all thoose maybes you posted is valid points and if you and your team cant live with it....DONT PLAY IT!
I talked to your captain yesterday, and he will tell you that all thoose points you bringed up I also did. Yes a team have to consider all theese things before agreeing on playing in a nations cup. So you know perfectly well that the board have thought off this things.
Nicolai is giving me a answer today about Denmark. But theese nations have given a positive answer so far

France
England
Portugal
Norway
Sweden
Germany
USA - Strange and maybe Dynasty-Avalanche

Denmark and Russia havent answered yet, and Finland is the next nation to be asked. So if Denmark dont want to its not a problem. But if you guys say yes, it will be under the restriction that you will support it 100%.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but looking at the idea of a Nations cup means that a few players from each country is going to get to play X-Ball.

Why is that?

Anyone can take a team to a normal event, they can play local tourneys, campaign, whatever. And yet a team can't say "we want to play X-Ball!" because it's chosen players forming the national teams.

With the change from woodland/concept to Sup' Air, what would have happened if it had been limited to people chosen from certain teams? The paintball scene as we know it would be drastically different.

I think that a lot of teams, from all levels, not just the pro's, will want to take part in some X-ball games. Why limit it in this way?

Mag, your event is I know, not run to make vast amounts of money, and I know u don't. The beneficiaries of playing X-ball, well financial beneficiaries are the promoters and the owners of the rights for X-Ball, as you know, we have discussed the latter, and found that perhaps things are not what they seem when it comes to ownership or promises thereof.
Nevertheless, this clouding of issues does not mask the fact that somebody / somebodies in Europe stands to gain a lot of money when it goes big time Stateside.
You are now well aware of what's on the table over there.
As far as speculation goes and if it's anybody's responsibility, well we (Nexus) were prepared to stump up $30,000 as were Ton Tons and Russian Legion.
Well those were the figures being touted around at the beginning of all this, now if I can speculate (and wished to) doesn’t that tell you that the prime beneficiaries (whoever they may be) should have done this also?
Now in reality, the start up figures for the teams, to facilitate a fully integrated circuit would have been nowhere near this amount making it even easier for others to get involved but no effort was made, and I mean no real effort at all.

All I kept hearing is, 'Oh, I am gonna lose money if these teams don’t turn up'
Well frikkin hold on a minute here, I was willing to stump up £30,000, what the hell u lot bitching for ?
Mag, when I called you and asked for the reasons why you did this, you admitted you had not been given the full picture and had you done so, your decision would have been different.
You also told me that you did not now agree with the decision of the board but felt bound by it.
So, my friend, it is not you who should be on here defending it !!
Pete

PS Nick, Magued's one of the good guys in all this, remember that !!!!

Mason, the proposed X-Ball league wasn't meant to be a socialist enterprise much like the Premier league in soccer isn't.
The X-Ball league was meant to be for the best teams playing the best paintball, it was to show all that is best about our sport at the highest level.
And on that basis, it was self-evident or should have been that it was going to be exclusive.

Good point.

But if you look at the premier league, any team can make it there, not just a few select players.

I also think that one problem that both international football and X-ball will share is that, while a player is great in his own team, if you put them in a new environment, they don't play to the level that they could.

Hey Mason, whether we like or not, this whole enterprise is Stateside driven.
On that basis, their initial X-ball model emulated, or at least tried to, other US sports like NBA and NFL.
These are franchised teams and wholly exclusive in terms of league membership.
Now it may not be the fairest, as far as the vast majority of participants, but it was set up that way to attract the Yank TV, the thinking being, the more similar it was to other American sports in terms of structure (scoreboard, league arrangements etc) the easier it would be for the American TV execs to swallow.

The European opportunity we once had was to be run along simliar lines and obviously had to be if there were to be full integration.
That opportunity has been wasted reagrdless of whether or not this half-assed Nations cup takes place.
