The 3K/4.5K thing isn't a strict 50% more as that implies that the whole of the tank is "usable" where as in reality the last say 500 psi is too low.

However, the other consideration is fills. In the UKyou can only really get a 3000 psi fills except at Millenniums. Some dive shops will fill 300bar bottle so they give about 4K but that's not a given and most sites like sparklies with the bulk bottles, they only give about 3K tops anyway.

So while 4.5K is preffered, it's by no means essential.

I have no problem getting 4500 fills at any of the dive shops I frequent, so I'm sorry but to say that about the UK is incorrect!

Hmmm.... weird.

1 shop we use will only get a full 4.5K out of a 12ltr 300bar if you leave the bottle with them and they keep topping it up over the course of a couple of days. that usually last about 1/2 a day if you only use it as top up.

Another imerses the tank in water to help keep it cool when filling and that give a 4.5 initial fill but only the one really. All subsequent fills are gradually less.

I was under the impresssion that to get between 3000 and 4000 ish is relatively easy but the full 4.5K every fill for say 8 games required bottles only the States used.

and how far north are your shops? if they can pump a 300bar to give 4.5K every fill then I might travel

Right sorry I get what your saying now, generally only get a couple of full fills! to get round this we normally bulk fill off a couple of 3000PSI bottles then top up with the 4500 fill this normally mean we get quite a few full fills.
