Costs of playing in the US or Europe...

I've been gas bagging with a few players in NZ recently, and the subject of playing overseas has come up again. NZ teams have made forays into Aussie and my team (Saints) played the World Cup a few years back (Before I was playing with them), so the subject has come up again. I'm not the keenest person on Aussie (I'd rather not arrive in the country and have my marker taken away from me - Does Oz = Mexico? Hmmmm).

So options are the World Cup in the US or Toulouse. Pros for the USA. Well it's America. Cons are we'd have to play ten man, and we play seven, so how can we really plan on beating the yanks at their own game? Europe...It's seven man (Woohoo!), it's not much more expensive to fly to Europe than it is to get to the US and fly 'round. And we might get on DVD if Niall does another...:D

So first question might be, which would you choose if you had the chance. Next is what are costs either way? Tourney entry, paint, accommodation, expenses, etc. Help is appreciated, as we'll start crunching the numbers based on your feedback.

Ok... Toulouse

What division would you play in? This effects your entry fee. Novice I think is 700 Euros. 20 Euros each to register for the Millennium series too.

Paint - obviously depends a helluva lot on what paint you choose to use... prelims are 10 games, possibly 3 in semis and a further 3 in the finals if you qualify.... as a guide, we played prelims and semis last year and the cost per person was definitely less than £100 but I can't remember exactly how much.

Accommodation - last year ours cost around about £70 each for the time we were there i think.

Expenses - Well you need to get to and from the site as there's no onsite hotel... we managed using a taxi company last year which worked out cheaper than hiring a car.

Toulouse last year was by far the best tournament anyone had ever seen and we're promised that this year it will be bigger and better, I totally recommend it if you guys can make it out there.

It's fot the Millennium ID Cards. You will pay this fee when you make your ID at the Millennium Stand.

What is this for and who are we supposed to pay it to?

Thanks

Pat
Every player at a millennium tournament has to be registered & have a player ID. I think the idea behind this is to prevent ringers playing for different teams at different (or even the same!) tournament.

Unlikely but possible scenario - 'Lanche fail to qualify for the semis/finals at an event, so LaSoya (or another 'Lanche player)guests for a novice team that has qualified for their division's finals. OK, I know this example is very extreme but it's the kind of thing the ID cards are there to prevent.

If you check out the Millennium rules there are some very strict conditions about transferring between teams and divisions.

Sorry, can't remember to who & when the player registration is paid.

I don't know how quickly you can arrange these things, but it may be worth to come to the Dutch Millennium tourney.
Ah yes, the Nederlands...'twas robbed at knife point on my last trip to Amsterdam. What fun that was....:(

A timeframe for heading overseas is next year. We have our largest tourney coming up in June, and we'll take a break until the NZ Nationals in November.

World Cup is October in the states and you don't have to play in the 10 man as there is a 5 man Comp as well, accommodation is all over and cheap although a cab ride is the least you will have to endure (10 mins max) or hire a car for all the other stuff there is to see. Ok my team is slightly biased as we have gone for the last 4 years and played in either the 10 or 5 man.
Everything you need is close by and Disney and Universal Studios is just up the road (if you wanna make a holiday of it as well).
This year the Finals are gonna be held at Disney although the prelims are still going to be in the usual place.
