Comparing Markers

Hi guys,

Im looking to get my initial setup and get into speedball. I'm looking for a mid range marker that will be competitive and hold its value better than an intro marker.

From my initial trawling of the internet and trawling of this forum, I have got a couple ideas of what I might go for. Here are my ideas:

Marker:
New Proto Reflex
New Etek 4
New Empire Axe
Second Hand Ego10
Second Hand DM (whatever)

Hopper:
Halo Too
Rotor

Air:
No idea, there's so much out there.

I would massively appreciate some input to help me decide between these options. The mains things I want are reliability, serviceability and how long it will last. I am not trying to shoot with the best (yet!), so my gun doesn't need to be insane. Let me know what you think.

If this is the wrong forum for this question, sorry!

dan

Before selecting markers, it would be good to provide a budget. Plus do you have other items necessary eg decent goggles, pack

How frequently will you play and what formats etc?

There is generally a lot of value in buying 2nd hand markers ahead of new as the previous owner(s) will have taken a depreciation hit. Effectively allowing you to get more for your money

Re service, one benefit of PE markers is having them in the UK. So if you need to send them your marker, it is relatively easy IMHO

Personally, I would never buy a new marker - you lose a third to a half of it's value as soon as you buy it, whereas a secondhand marker will already have lost that in value before you buy it.

Of those listed, a secondhand Ego ten (currently anywhere from £290-£350) one heck of a marker and will compete with anything on the marker, as well as having the bonus of being simple to maintain and produced by a UK company. Which is why I shoot one myself... ;)

My budget is about
£300-400 for a marker
£100 max for loader
£150 max for air (preferably less!)

I want to play about once a month, maybe more freqently. Ideally I want to play speedball, but BZ paitnball only really do woodsball in my area (Hartlepool)

So basically PE is a good way to go, hence ETEK or Ego?

I have had trouble finding reviews on this forum for the Ego 10 (i have typed it into search). Are there any resources out there to find out more on it?

I've been shooting mine for nearly a year now, and love it to bots. When they came out, Eclipse billed them as the first Ego to move from fast shooting to smooth shooting as the key design feature. It's noticeably quieter and smoother feeling than other Egos I've shot that came before it.
I find it very efficient - I can play back to back race points without having the refill off a 68/3k fill. I've never properly tested it, but I do find I can shoot a full pack of 6 pods and a few more after that if needed.
Cleaning and servicing is a doddle, as with any poppet marker, and it feels nice in the hand. As a bonus, the price has dropped through the floor and they are a proper bargain.

I have played at pointblank, was a hire gun day with non paintball mates. its nice but the speedball field there is a bit naff. but i definetly want to have a go at massive attack at seaham, it think that is the best place to try out. even the bloke from BZ said go there lol.
