it wouldn't change, it'll be a health and safety thing or something like that; they will be trained to fill a larger bottle, less chance of things going wrong. if their insurance only covers larger bottles then they may be unhappy to do smaller ones, quite simple really... youd have smaller shops being more willign to do it, but chains and large centres may have strict regulations on it

dive shops probably refuse to fill paintball tanks for a couple of reasons:

the main one most likely that they do not have an adapter to go from their fill rig to the fill nipple on the bottle. Also UK dive shops tend to fill in BAR not PSI and the control panels may not be calibrated for both.

Might also be for safety reasons (keeping the tank cool etc)

Buy yourself a cheap scuba tank (£60 -£80)and use that....

P.S. £3 a fill for compressed air (you don't need oxygen) is a bit steep, our local dive shop do my 12 litre tank to 220 BAR for £1.50 (I'm a diver and a paintballer).

I would imagine getting a co2 fill outside of a paintball site would be even trickier.

a lot of dive shops/sites refuse to fill small air tanks. i do not know why, but i am going down to my local dive site (stoney cove) this weekend i think, i will ask for you :)
the official line is that their tanks fill at a rate thats greater than 300bar... at least thats what my local one tells me... (they would have to fill it very slowly apparently!)

the best thing to do would be try and get to your local site as they would fill it for you... again i know mine does! chuck them a couple of quid and its fine! if you are intent on going to a dvie shop make sure that you have the correct male 300bar dinn attachment that are often on sale on this sites 'classifieds'... then at least you are content that your system is being filled with a regulated supply of air!

good luck tho and go AIR!!!! so much less hassle and many sites do air now instead of CO2!
