Why play tournaments if people are going to cheat? Supposedly these professionals are so calm and collected that they can keep up with the position of 20 players, time left in the game, balls left in their hoppers, a running litany of code words, and a zillion other things going on, but I'm supposed to believe that they have their heads up their butts enough that they can't tell when they've been hit. I don't buy that for a minute. They know they have been hit, and play on anyway. They cheat, plain and simple. No excuses. In the real world, cheaters do win. I would hate to lose to a cheater, so once again, why play tournaments?

I dunno. I agree with you on the conscience effort to wipe. That is utter BS. Now, it is a tough call when you are makin a mad run and get hit in the marker, hopper, or somewhere else that may not be noticable. Let the refss deal it out. That's what I say.

Why play tournament ? Fun.

This has all been done before, but people cheat because they want to win. People cheat at all sorts of things, its human nature. Its why we have police forces to try and stop people breaking laws.

To prevent this cheating , all you can do in paintball is have lots of eagle eyed marshals, but if your are hit say in the foot, nobody saw it, change position and hey its gone, never happened and you are still in the game and perhaps you then make a move which wins the game. Its not fair but it happens. I think Sup Air ball reduces the scope for cheating as there is less to hide behind and you are more visible, but of course its still possible and still goes on.

Last tournament, I'm sure I shot a player in the chest as he ran into the snake, but as he hit the ground, crawled, magically it was gone. He wanted his team to win just like I wanted my team to win. We lost!

Yeah, some peopel cheat in tournaments, but I've seen cheating at walkons, public days etc. Nobody taught them to cheat, its just human nature. Not nice, but it happens.

Cheating is ****, we can try to stop it, but all we can do is reduce it. It happens. Sorry...

Try a tournament, you might enjoy it.

scared to lose ? Hmmm. Myself, sure I want my team to win all the time, but Ive played games where we lost, but still had a great game fighting. I'm not scared to lose, but we (as a team) dont have anything to prove, so we dont have big pressure on us. We have played teams such as Avalanche, we just played our best and walked off the field one by one! I imagine that if you play for a top team and you f*ck up, you could be off the team, so you wipe to keep you playing in the team. Yeah, then you are scared to lose. I agree with you there.

But, most teams are groups of friends, and play tournaments for fun, so if you mess up, it happened, learn from it, move onto the next game. So not all cheating players are scared to lose, some just want to win.

Why play football if people are gonna foul? Its the same thing, they can both alter the outcome of a game but you have to rely on quality judges to keep things as fair as possible. Lifes a bitch, get on with it....

You have to play for the game, the rush and the win.

The time that cheating really gets to you though is when you dont make the semis cos of a few points or something....but even that dosnt make you wanna stop playing tournaments.

Sadly with some higher ranked teams it comes down to money in the end. Sponsorship, especially at the very top, is dependant on results - if cheating is the only way that a team can win then some will because good results = good sponsorship. Just think of the sheer cost of playing an overseas tournament what with travel, hotels, paint bill, tournament fees, etc etc etc. If the top teams can get this picked up for them by their sponsor, you can see that it's a fairly good incentive to cheat.
I'm not sure if this is still the case, but way back when in the old days it used to be recognised that the higher level teams were much more prone to cheating, mainly 'cause they had more to lose if they failed.

"but I'm supposed to believe that they have their heads up their butts enough that they can't tell when they've been hit. "

Goes further that this as well I'm afraid - have a look at the threads in "Tournament" about hot guns & the like, & you'll find some comments from people who have had pro players admitting to "designer" cheating to get their guns going hot mid-game. That can't even be passed off as the heat of the moment like some wipes are.

Thanks for the positive input guys and gals. I have played a few tournaments, albeit small locals with nothing but pride and trophies at stake and I am trying to get another team put together to go a little higher. When I talk to players about playing in a tourney they usually are reticent because they feel they will be mowed down and cheated. Your replies help solidify my position that it is not tolerated by most and shouldn't be used as an excuse not to try.

I agree that it's horrendous that some cheating goes on to the extent discussed previously on these boards.

The thing is though, if these top teams are cheating to win - then would they actually be top teams if they didn't cheat???

It's terrible to think that there are such skilled people out there losing to the top teams just because they're playing fairly and honestly, whilst the some of the pro's above them are cheatin' to their hearts content.

They will get found though. They will get caught on camera with the continuous development of filming top tourneys. And I hope that when they do get caught cheating on the next Campaign DVD or whatever, then they feel utterly humiliated and suffer any consequences - and definitely lose their sponsorship so that it can go to a worthy team (players).

Going back to your original q. about why play tourneys if people are just going to cheat. Not all people cheat, of course. But as time goes on, with advancements in technology, the paintball world, judges, onfield chronoing, whatever. It will become even more difficult for people to cheat. I also believe that when harsher penalties perhaps come into play - they will obviously be a big incentive to stop the cheating and make the offending players think twice.

Tourneys in one sense are about proving yourself. Proving that your team are the best - many people will go to v. extreme lengths to fool others (and themselves more than anyone) that they are the best at paintball. But some of the time they're only proving that they're damn good at cheating.
