Campaign @ Crystal Palace, opinions...

Russell Smith

The Paintball Association
What on earth was they supposed to do, no matter what they do in their endeavour to bring the biggest event in European paintball to the UK there is always some fool who criticises them.
The security on the car parks was a disgrace, but do you not think Crystal Palace management already knew that, did they tell the Millennium organisers!, if they had I am sure they would have put staff on there to protect your stuff.
As far as the field viewing, so you could only see the CPL field, well let us be honest here, why would you want to view any of the others if the best teams played on the one you could see.
It does not matter a iota what they do because someone on here will bad mouth them and at some point they will say – ****‘em they don’t deserve it, and another event will get on the calendar maybe another in Germany and we will have Campaign at a local site down south.
So instead of coming on a forum and just being negative, be constructive and helpful, if you genuinely think you have some ideas that may assist them, tell them.
The level of organisation required for an international event of this magnitude is incredible and to see bloody idiots slate their efforts really grates, I should not be surprised because its always take take take with paintballers.
Lets look at the positives (I know other threads have) like the Kelly’s and Notorious Kids results and lets have constructive criticism if it is required, but overall lets be grateful will still have an event of this calibre in the UK.

Russell, to be honest, people who pays their money have every right to criticize, and to call them idiots is a bit of an insult really if their grievances are genuine.

I agree, if people are griping about things that just didn't happen or maybe vastly exaggerating things then this can rightfully attract the tag of 'foolish' but I don't think it serves any purpose in branding everybody who had a legitimate complaint as 'fools'.

Security was tight,
im sorry m8 but it wasnt,we got into areas we should not have got into,we were there to pick a field up thats what we told the security they didnt question just let us through.

also not the best one i have been to at crystal palace,i think when theey had all the trade stands around the track was a better layout imo much better for spectators as you can see the games and buy at the stands at the same time :)

killing for tha jewellery quarter
well said

Well said Russ,a lot of people moaned about c/cup last year as well, saying security was good, fields and viewing were great, layout was a bit dodgy but you can,t have everything!"glad its back at c/palace!" we heard a lot of people say then they come on the forums and slag c/cup even more than the nec event!!!wtf? if the nec event had a slightly better layout and the weather was red hot it would have been a great success (imo),but some one still would have moaned anyway!doesn,t matter what the ms people do,there will always be some one out there with a moan to vent!instead of wasting time/energy bitching about the events, why don,t they use said energy and bloody well help out!!!!Big up to all the judges and squeegee staff as they worked their b*ll*cks off at c/cup all w/end.....one more gripe at the gripers,if you keep moaning about the events, the ms people will say "screw you guys" and go somewhere else instead, then you really can gripe when germany get 2 events and you have to take even more time off work/buy flights etc.....if you think the ms people aren,t doing enough,we can always get pedro to run it:eek: Frenchie....killing for tha jewelry quarter...;)

Actually, it's not 'well said Russ' at all because paying customers should always have the opportunity to state their case and if that means highlighting shortcomings then so be it.

And if this process wasn't allowed for fear of being classified as 'fools' then the Millennium guys wouldn't be aware of the problems they need to take care of for the next event.

The Millennium Board watch this forum and will be acutely aware of what people's problems were.
They will also be more than able to sift out the genuine problems from the people just spouting off for the sake of it but I think it's a huge mistake and also a huge misunderstanding to assign all detractors with being idiots.

you are wrong....so basicly what you are saying is that the UK baller has to suffer in silence and take second best, and not voice there concerns to make this event better, with the threat of losing this event at the UK for speaking up on a public forum, then you slate said people as bloody idiots for handing over all there hard earned cash, not just on the event but every thing that goes with it, ie; hotels, train/car/air fares etc for having an opinion...
you are soooo wrong!

I think if you realised that what every baller wants is better events the motives for people's comments would become apparant. There were numerous flaws with Campaign that I feel can be directly attributed with the event being held at crystal palace. Being branded a 'fool' for desiring a better event is well out of order. I don't feel people are complaining for the sake of it.

As far as the field viewing, so you could only see the CPL field, well let us be honest here, why would you want to view any of the others if the best teams played on the one you could see.
That's just rubbish. The CPL field was not running constantly (breaks between matches) and I'd have loved to see friends I know play in the 7man along with the division1 games with Kelly's and co.

It does not matter a iota what they do because someone on here will bad mouth them and at some point they will say – ****‘em they don’t deserve it, and another event will get on the calendar maybe another in Germany and we will have Campaign at a local site down south.
I'm sure the guys in charge at the MS have thicker skins to accept people opinions and comments, take them on board and correct the mistakes. This is a public forum and we are free to voice our opinions on matters such as this that affect us one way or another. I guess the alternative is to slap everyone on the back and put on blinkers and say it was a flawless event just because we don't want to damage people's pride.

So instead of coming on a forum and just being negative, be constructive and helpful, if you genuinely think you have some ideas that may assist them, tell them.

Again, I don't feel that the problem was as much the organisation. They did a great job but unfortunatly shoehorning an event of this type into a venue that is clearly unsuitable is a task that is possibly unachievable within the budget and time-frame they have. Again, there's reasons that Campaign was moved from Crystal Palace....

Lets look at the positives (I know other threads have) like the Kelly’s and Notorious Kids results and lets have constructive criticism if it is required, but overall lets be grateful will still have an event of this calibre in the UK.
As you say, there are other threads addressing the fantastic results of certain UK teams. I just wish i could have seen them play more.

From a spectators point of view the CPL field was fantastic, could do with some better commentary/announcements but it was good and had a real atmosphere.

For the rest of the fields it was pants, very little access without having a pass/wrist band.

Lot's of good trade stands and some better food.

Some ideas :

+ How about a race track as a venue? tend to be pretty flat good access/parking etc? might be tricky with cleanup etc. but is an idea :)

+ How about a "millenium radio" station for the event? they are hopefully going to end the FM transmitter ban (because of itrips) soon so you could broadcast in a 100 metre odd radius with a £150 peice of kit (basically a beefed up itrip) this could keep players/spectators informed of what is going on.

+ Also some more "outside" advertising, banner at train station or something? would be good draw in more ballers of the future.
